In-ho rose from the floor in a slow motion, the weight of his choice pressing down on him.

The faint tremor in his fingers was the only betrayal of the storm raging beneath his controlled exterior. His sharp, sculpted features were difficult to read but his eyes—dark, piercing—held a glint of something dangerously close to breaking. His suit clung to his frame, disheveled from kneeling, his chest rising and falling with a restrained fury that made him almost intoxicating to look at.

" I did what you wanted. " In-ho murmured, his voice hoarse yet unwavering. " Call the hospital. Give her a room. If she dies, I swear— "

But there was no need to finish. Il-nam was already reaching for the telephone, his aged fingers moving with ease as he relayed the necessary instructions.

A beat of silence. Then the quiet click of the receiver being placed back down.

Without a word, In-ho turned on his heel, already reaching for the door, ready to disappear the moment he confirmed his father had upheld his end of the bargain.

" Where do you think you're going, son? " Il-nam's voice slithered through the air. " You've only just signed your deal, and you're already looking to break it? "

In-ho stilled, fingers tightening around the doorknob.

" I agreed to marry that monster. " he said, his voice sharp, controlled. " I never said I wouldn't see him again. "

Il-nam's smirk widened, something dark gleaming in his gaze.

" I'm sure the person you're running to won't be too pleased once he finds out. " he mused.

" Don't, " In-ho warned, exhaling sharply. " Tell him. I'll do it myself. " The words felt like acid in his mouth.

" Of course, son. " Il-nam's voice was almost amused. " I wouldn't stand in your way. Now that nothing stands in mine. "

In-ho didn't hesitate. The moment the door creaked open, he stepped through, leaving the suffocating presence of his father behind.

Was it selfish of him? To still want Gi-hun—his warmth, his touch, the way his very presence felt like safety—even after everything?

Did I make a rash decision? In-ho questioned himself. Gi-hun, if you were in my position, would you have done the same thing?

But there was no time to think. He slid into the car, hands gripping the wheel like it was the only thing keeping him steady.

He had just signed his fate on paper—ink sealing what should have been unbreakable.

And yet, here he was, running back to the one person who needed no contract, no signature, to own him completely.

Gi-hun's face lit up the moment In-ho appeared at the door of his mother's hospital room, his relief so obvious it softened the sterile white walls around them.

" In-ho! " Gi-hun rushed toward him, eyes searching his face, flickering with unspoken questions.

In-ho wanted to look away. He wanted to deny himself this moment, to resist the pull of the very eyes that had undone him time and time again.

But who knew how long he had left before those eyes turned cold? So he let himself drown in them, let their warmth burn through the numbness in his chest.
