Amelia
I smoothed down my skirt, admitting the way it looked perfect on me. The uniform was actually cute—navy and white with just the right amount of preppy charm. The blazer gave it a polished look, and I loved the little ribbon tied neatly at my collar.
Spinning slightly in front of the mirror, I smiled. At least there was one good thing about starting at a new school—I got to dress up in something that made me feel confident.
Not everyone liked wearing uniforms, but I didn't mind. It saved me from the stress of picking out a outfit every morning, and honestly? I felt kind of put together in it.
As I checked my reflection one last time, I adjusted the ribbon at my collar and tucked a loose strand of blonde hair behind my ear. The uniform was cute, and with a little bit of concealer, mascara, blush, and lip gloss, I felt just a bit more put together. Nothing to much—just enough to give me confidence boost.
Taking a deep breath, I grabbed my bag and stepped out of my room. No matter what happens today, at least I look good.
As I made my way downstairs, the sound of clinking dishes and muffled voices filled the air. I stepped into the kitchen to find all six of my step brothers crowded around the table, shoveling down breakfast like they hadn't eaten in days.
I hesitated in the doorway, my fingers tightening around the strap of my bag. It was still strange—going from being an only child to suddenly having six step brothers. Loud , messy, and completely chaotic step brothers.
I swallowed the lump in my throat and grabbed a piece of toast from the counter, pretending not to notice the way some of them barely glanced at me, while others didn't even bother looking at all.
Elijah let out a scoff. " Nice outfit."
Marcus smirked. " Trying a little to hard , don't you think?"
I wanted to roll my eyes but I forced a smile instead. " it's a uniform. We all have to wear it."
He shrugged, taking other bit of his food like he couldn't care less. I glanced at Mason, hoping—stupidly—that maybe he'd at least say something. But he just forced on he's plate, not even acknowledging me.
" Whatever." I muttered, walking away. I wasn't about to sit here and eat with them when they clearly didn't want me around.
But just as I was about to walk away, Mason finally spoke. " Don't expect special treatment just because you live here now."
I froze for a second, his words hitting harder then I wanted to admit. Swallowing down the lump in my throat, I forced myself to keep going.
" I never did." I said quietly, walking away without looking back.
