I fiddle with my sleeve as Grunkle Stan and I walk through the trees and onto the pier at Lake Gravity Falls. I stop to catch my breath, and Grunkle Stan does the same. "I can't believe... Dipper did that walk.. Every day," I pant out between breaths.

"No kidding, that is some serious commitment right there." Grunkle Stan says while leaning half over with his hands on his knees. I hear a soft sound coming from the lake, and my heart stops. "It's basically all the way across town to get here. That kid's got some serious determination-"

"SHH!!!" I say quickly, listening in on the sound.

"What is it?" Grunkle Stan whispers, having finally caught his breath.

"I don't know, but I'm gonna check it out." I mumble to him. I tiptoe down the pier, still listening for the sound. It floats to me again, and I'm careful to stay quiet.

It's a quiet voice, and not one I recognize. "🎵 🎶 I don't know what I was doing... When suddenly, we fell apart 🎶 🎵 No, that's not the vibe I'm looking for..." I silently follow the voice, looking back and signalling for Grunkle Stan to wait for me where he was. "🎵 🎶 There's a time that I remember when I never felt so lost 🎶 🎵" As I get further down the pier, the voice becomes clearer, it's low, like a minor key, but feminine. "🎵 🎶 When I felt all of the hatred was too powerful to stop 🎶 🎵" I'm not sure if it's that girl I saw or not, but I really hope it is. "🎵 🎶 Now my heart feel like an ember and it's lighting up the dark. I'll carry these torches for ya that you know I'll never drop, yeah 🎶 🎵" By the time I get to the end of the pier, the girl's soft singing is clear, and I can tell it's coming from beneath! I lay on my stomach and look under the pier to see a fish-humanoid. She's facing the other way, and I don't think she knows I'm here yet. "🎵 🎶 Everybody hurts sometimes. Everybody hurts someday, ayy ayy. But everything gon' be alright. Go and raise a glass and say, ayy. Here's to the ones that we got. Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not 🎶 🎵"

"HELLO!!!" I shout with a bright smile. The owner of the voice flinches and faces me quickly. She looked ready to throw a punch, and I flinch back slightly. "Wow! Either you're jumpy, or Dipper likes 'em feisty!" Now that she's looking at me, I get a good look at her. That long fin that fish have on top of their heads looks almost like hair on her, and it's cute! Her eyes are fully black, which is so trippy and unique. She sits there, staring at me for a moment. I must have scared her good.

"Dipper...? No way, you're...!" The feisty fish lady dives into the water, and I wonder if she just left. I pull back up and sit criss-cross-apple-sauce on the pier end.

"Hello? Please come back! I need to talk to you, please?" I look over the water, sighing sadly. I take a deep breath and raise my voice. "Please, can you just come back for a minute? It's about Dipper!" I wait another moment, hearing my voice bounce off the world around me. The feisty Siren resurfaces in front of me, holding the edge of the pier. "Hello again!" I smile brightly.

She smiles weakly, and I feel my hope lift. "Hello again... You're Mabel Pines, aren't you?"

I chuckle and nod. "That's me, the one and only!"

"I figured. You have the bouncy attitude Dipper mentioned." The nice Siren smiles wider, and spins in a circle. "It's so nice to finally meet you, Dipper's told me about you, and-" She freezes, her black eyes getting wide, and I get really confused. She looks down at the water, almost like she was going to cry. "But... I can't see you, it's not safe for you here. You need to leave."

"Leave? Why would I do that? I'm here to help fix you and Dipper's relationship, and I can't do that if I leave." I tease her, hoping it lifts her spirits. I turn back to Grunkle Stan and gesture for him to come to where the Siren and I are. "So, what's your name?" I turn to face the Siren again.
