the warm summer air was thick with the scent of pine and the distant crackle of a bonfire being prepared for the night's festivities. a commotion at the entrance caught y/n's attention.
two familiar figures stood at the gate, panting heavily, their bags slung over their shoulders as if they had run all the way there.
"we made it!"
hinata's triumphant yell rang through the air, his face flushed from exhaustion and excitement. beside him, kageyama looked far less celebratory, his brows furrowed in irritation as he tried to catch his breath.
"if we had just passed in the first place, we wouldn't have to sprint here like idiots," kageyama grumbled, hands on his knees.
hinata ignored him, beaming as he scanned the area, his eyes lighting up the moment they landed on y/n.
y/n grinned, about to wave when she noticed something peculiar—hinata turned his head slightly, glancing at kageyama, who was staring straight at her.
not just looking—staring.
his dark blue eyes were locked onto her with an intensity that made y/n shift slightly. she felt a strange tension in the air, and before she could make sense of it, hinata elbowed kageyama in the ribs, a teasing smirk on his face.
kageyama recoiled, "oof—what the hell, hinata?!"
hinata wiggled his eyebrows. "dude, you've been staring at y/n this whole time."
y/n blinked, her heart skipping a beat. what?
kageyama immediately went red, scowling as he turned away. "i was not staring."
"ohhh, so you were staring," hinata sing-songed, his voice dripping with amusement.
y/n felt a weird twinge in her stomach—something she couldn't quite name. why was hinata so eager about this? it wasn't like it was wrong for kageyama to be interested in her, but... she couldn't shake the odd sensation curling in her chest at how supportive hinata seemed.
kageyama crossed his arms, glaring. "shut up, hinata."
