You smiled up at him, despite the tension, your gaze unwavering as his eyes narrowed in a soft glare. "We'll figure this out, Papyrus. Even if I am an 'odd creature,' as you put it," you chuckled lightly, your bright eyes meeting his once more. "I'll help you."
Papyrus was so caught off guard that he didn't even know how to respond. With a frustrated growl, he jerked his hand away, leaving you momentarily shocked. "I don't need your help, human. You're only here because..." He faltered, struggling to find an excuse.
You laughed softly, brushing past him with a carefree smile. "It's okay, no need to explain. I get it. Let's just keep going, alright?" You glanced over your shoulder at him, still smiling.
The fact that you understood him, without needing him to explain, left him stunned. You knew how uncomfortable he was with affection, how easily it flustered him, and how it often made him snap. But still, you kept trying to find the best way to approach him, to break through the walls he'd built up. It made his soul ache with something he couldn't quite understand.
He let out another growl as he followed you. "I hate feeling this way." He grumbled.
You let out a laugh, quickly covering your mouth as Papyrus shot daggers toward you, his steps growing closer. "I'm sorry, it's just..." You turned your head, struggling to hold back your laughter. "You'll get used to it, I promise," you said, your face flushing a faint red.
He kept his gaze forward, his voice low and serious. "I swear, if you ever leave me to deal with these feelings on my own, I'll find you and kill you," he growled, just as you both finally arrived in Hotland.
"Noted," you muttered, fanning yourself as the intense heatwave hit you, the air thick with humidity. "God, how are you not sweating?" you asked, peeling off your jacket and sweater, leaving yourself in just a tank top.
Papyrus rolled his eyes, clearly unbothered. "You ask this every time, (Y/N). I'm a monster. I've lived here for so long, I'm used to it." His voice was casual, but his eyes couldn't help but drift toward you occasionally, slightly mesmerized by how much skin you were showing in the oppressive heat.
You groaned, wiping sweat from your brow. "I will never get used to this," you muttered, your discomfort evident.
"Stop your complaining," Papyrus ordered, turning sharply toward the lab and pounding his fist on the door with such force that it echoed through the air.
You flinched at the sheer power behind his knocks, the sound nearly rattling your bones. "Jeez, Papyrus, do you have to knock that loud?" you asked, walking up to him, both amused and slightly startled by the intensity of his actions.
Papyrus shot you a sharp glare, a clear sign to keep quiet. You nodded slightly, understanding the unspoken command. "Alphys! I demand you open this door!" he bellowed, before letting out a frustrated sigh and glancing at you.
"You're here for a reason," he said firmly. "Play along, got it? I'll step in if necessary." He returned his attention to the door, his stance rigid and commanding.
You blinked a few times, still unsure. "Me?" you asked, the question slipping out before you could stop it.
"I have the human with me this time, so there's no reason for you to hide," he continued, crossing his arms over his chest, his voice almost challenging.
You couldn't help but remember your last encounter with Alphys. The way she was so fascinated by you, eager to run countless experiments and tests. It sent a chill down your spine. You instinctively stepped behind Papyrus, the unease creeping up on you again.
