Two Steps Too Far

-general pov-
The NSA had taken one of the methheads, Pete, into custody to experiment on him. Although Blair was assigned a different case. She was supposed to follow Jared and see what he knew about the Major. Vance had told Blair that the major was dead and that needed to stay classified. She followed him all day trying to piece together what he might know. He talked to a woman at a house, a street cop, a woman who in Blair's opinion he liked, and finally a garbage truck yard. That was a problem. If he starts asking questions things may fall apart. Blair told Vance about what Jared was up too and she headed back to Eureka. "Special Agent Fischer" stepped in to handle the whole Jared situation. When she arrived back to Eureka she saw Saanvi in an argument with Vance. That's when Blair stepped into the interrogation room Jared was sitting in.

"Your Kathryn Fitz investigation is a matter of national security, Detective and you need to let it go."

Jared got defensive "See I can't do that. There's a woman missing and a daughter wanting answers. Look I know you guys are covering up Kathryn Fitz's disappearance. I just... can't figure out why. What is she out there gaslighting some other passengers?"

"gaslighting? Really." She paused waiting for him to realize the seriousness of the situation they were in "Kathryn Fitz is dead. Murdered"

Jared stopped, processing the information he was just told. He asked if they knew who did it

Blair continued talking "one of our agents found her body several months ago. Submerged in a bog 45 miles east of New Orleans. Now we suspect a foreign asset was responsible."

Blair didn't like lying. Especially since the majors daughter would never get real closure. But this was bigger then them, she had to do this to keep her daughter safe. "to make myself abundantly clear, I'm only telling you this because your investigation threatens a whole host of classified matters. You have to stand down. Let it go."

Blair left the file with Jared and walked out into the viewing room where Vance and Saanvi were watching. The only people who knew what really happened were Vance, Saanvi, and Blair. As far as the rest of the government was aware Kathryn Fitz was killed by an enemy spy. And it had to stay that way. If anyone figured out what Saanvi did or that Vance covered it up, we lose control of the whole 828 investigation.

-flashback June 2019-
Blair stood in her living room with her newborn baby in her arms. The baby was up all night and Blair didn't know what she needed. She swears she hadn't slept in like a week and she tried everything. Also it was her birthday. She scrolled her Instagram while bouncing Luna in her arms. When she got a text from an old friend inviting her to an event at a club, free champagne or something. Even if she didn't have a newborn, how was she gonna get into a club she was only 18. Well 18 or 24? Anyway all of a sudden she was hit with a wave of dizziness, fire flashed before her eyes, and she heard her voice in her head "save the passengers". The calling was telling her something bad was gonna happen but she couldn't fix it. Then the sound of silence pulled her out of her trance. She set Luna in the bassinet and fell asleep herself. She didn't think much of it until the next morning when she turned on the news. The same nightclub she was invited to had catch fire with people caught inside. Passengers. With at least 6 dead. The voice in her head was right and she didn't listen and people died.

-Blair's pov-
As I leave the interrogation room to go home I hear Vance call out my name. When I turn I see Ben running toward where Pete is being held.

"Agent Decontes you are to accompany Ben and Pete to his home. He has 4 hours and then you bring him back. You DO NOT leave his side."

I sighed annoyed but gave in "Understood sir"

And with I took off to catch up with Ben. I call Nora to let her know I'll be home late. When I catch up to Ben he already had Pete in civilian clothes and we headed to Bens house to get supplies. When we got there Angelina was waiting up and her and Pete shared a moment. I spoke up interrupting the two "hey I hate to break this up but we are running out of time, we have to go"
