I stand at his doorstep, my fingers hanging next to the wooden door, contemplating to knock it or to go back to my house.
These last days after Ethan left, I tried talking to him multiple times and every single time he looked uninterested before saying he had work to do and leaving. It's been the same for the past few days and it's killing me. It's been the same since he reeked someone else when he came to Ares' place. When he was covered in someone else's scent for the first time.
It is killing me to see him avoid me like that. It hurts to inhale next to him when I can smell someone on him.
When I tried asking him where he was, he said, "it's none of your business."
I had pushed him away. I had pushed him so far that he wouldn't even tell me a single thing, nor notice how tortured I was.
Pushing all thoughts back, I knock on the door and take a deep breath.
I have to talk to him. I can't lose him.
I refuse to.The door opens after few minutes, revealing his dark brown eyes that slightly widen when they land on me.
"You?" He mutters in shock before his face tenses, his brows knitting."What are you doing here at this hour?" He looks away, staring somewhere near my shoulders. I look at my watch, noticing the time.
Oh shit, it's two-thirty in the night. It had completely slipped through my mind when I walked here. The talk with Ethan had me so pumped up that I didn't even wait for the next morning to come here.
"I, uh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize how late it was." I mutter, blinking as my heart starts to pump at a wild rate. I can feel sweat breaking on my body, the cold night being suddenly so hot.
Adrien nods before he stiffens, his eyes boring on my face as they zero in on me. "Come in." He steps back, a very serious look displaying on his face.
Without saying anything, I step in his house nervously. He closes the door behind him and folds his arms over his chest, leaning back on it and waiting for me to speak. "Adrien." I turn around to look at him but the way he is looking at me makes me close my mouth.
"What were you thinking going into human's world?" He questions and I freeze at my spot. What?
"I didn't.." I stutter, my voice wavering as I stand in front of him. He raises an eyebrow, a ghostly smile touching his lips. A sarcastic one.
"Now you're gonna lie. How great." He rolls his eyes before unfolding his arms and taking a step in my direction. "You are literally covered in Ethan's scent." He tilts his head back to stare in my eyes, a wild fire going behind them.
My heart hammers against my chest, picking up pace like it has been waiting for this moment, waiting for Adrien's eyes to look at me.
How can I be so dumb? Of course he can smell someone on me like I can on him. "He needed me." I utter, looking away from him. He takes another step closer and I hold my breath. "He needed you and not Ares?" He grits through his teeth, glaring at me like I was the one cheating. I am not saying that Adrien is cheating but I'm not going and meeting someone suspicious.
"I was with Ethan, I admit it. What about you?" I look down back at him, my eyes dancing on his face when I find him inches away from me. He scoffs, his hot breath crashing against my skin before taking a step back. "So you shamelessly admit that you went to meet him in his world?"
I frown, not understanding what he is implying here. I take a step forward, closing the distance he made between us by taking a step back. "I don't understand why you are being like this. What's so shameful in meeting a friend?" I say and he looks at me, his brows knitted as he glares at me. He inhales a little that seems to calm him down a bit as his gaze soften for brief seconds.
