The office was dim, quiet except for the faint hum of the air conditioning. Yaga sat behind his desk, fingers steepled, his eyes fixed on the man across from him. Gojo, as usual, appeared relaxed, but today his usual cocky air was subdued, like the weight of the situation was beginning to settle in.
"So, she killed him," Yaga began, his voice level, but his eyes sharp.
Gojo leaned back in his chair, stretching his arms out and propping his feet up. "Yeah, she did."
Yaga's gaze darkened. "And you don't see a problem with that?"
Gojo lifted his sunglasses slightly, meeting Yaga's intense stare. "What do you mean? We both knew it was coming, Yaga. She's dangerous when she's cornered." He paused, pushing his sunglasses back in place. "Hell, she's dangerous even when she's not. You've seen her potential."
"That's not the issue, and you know it." Yaga said, voice tight with frustration. "The problem is how she did it. Her power – it's not just destructive. It's unpredictable. That technique of hers... it doesn't just kill, Gojo. It erases. Completely."
Gojo's casual expression faltered for a split second. "I'm aware of what happened. But it was instinct. I told you this. She was defending herself. It wasn't intentional."
"I'm not talking about intent. I'm talking about the fact that it happened. And what happens when she loses control again?" Yaga leaned forward, his voice low and serious. "What happens when she erases the wrong person? What happens when she starts erasing herself?"
Gojo let out a heavy breath, pushing back in his chair, hands behind his head. His eyes softened with a flicker of something closer to concern. "I'll keep an eye on her. I've been doing it since we first met her."
"But you don't fully understand her power, do you?" Yaga's tone had a sharp edge now.
Gojo was silent for a moment. He knew Yaga was right. They didn't have a full grasp on what L/N's technique was capable of. He had seen it in action, but every time, it was as if it was something new, something shifting. There was too much mystery surrounding it.
"I'll figure it out," Gojo finally said, his voice calmer but no less firm. "I've got this under control." He gave a half-smile, though there was no humor in it. "You know me Yaga, I always do."
Yaga stared at him, skepticism heavy in his gaze. "I hope for your sake you're right. Because if you're not..." He let the words hang in the air.
Gojo's smirk returned, though it lacked its usual confidence. "I'll handle it. Don't worry about it." His voice lowered, and his gaze softened. "I won't let anything happen to her."
Yaga didn't respond immediately, his eyes narrowing slightly. The tension between them was palpable. Finally, with a reluctant nod, he spoke. "Just don't get complacent, Gojo. We're talking about a power that we barely understand."
Gojo said nothing but stood, adjusting his black jacket with a casual flick. "I'll be fine. And so will she."
As Gojo left the office, Yaga stayed behind, staring out the window, lost in thought. He wasn't so sure. He couldn't be.
I woke up slowly, the soft pressure of Yuji's arms around me grounding me in a reality that didn't feel real. I could hear the faint sound of his breathing, steady and calm, and for a moment, I just let myself stay there, unsure of what to do next. But the weight of everything that had happened – the fight, the sorcerer, his last look before I erased him – pressed down on me, making it impossible to stay still for long.
I shifted, careful not to wake him, but my movements were slow and deliberate. Yuji stirred slightly, his face scrunching up in his sleep, but he didn't wake up. I pulled away gently standing up from the bed and walking quietly across the room. The door creaked as I opened it, but thankfully, Yuji didn't wake. I stepped into the hall, my heart pounding in my chest. I was still shaken from the events of last night.
The thoughts wouldn't stop running through my head. How had I done that? How had I wiped that sorcerer from existence without even fully realizing what was happening?
I made my way to my own room, my mind a whirlwind of confusion and dread. I needed answers. I needed to understand what I had done. I wasn't going to sit in the dark, not anymore. I couldn't.
Once in my room, I locked the door behind me and sat down at my desk, pulling out a blank sheet of paper. I paused, the pen hovering above it, unsure where to begin.
How could I even put this into words?
I decided to write it down anyway. I had to try, even if it didn't make sense. The memories felt fragmented, broken. I couldn't make sense of them. But then a thought struck me: What if I could find out more?
Gojo had mentioned something about sorcerers from the past – about strange, dangerous experiments. Could I find more information about the sorcerer I had killed?
I grabbed my coat and hurried out of the room, making my way toward the archives. If there was anyone who might have answers, it would be Jujutsu High.
The archives were quiet, the air thick with the scent of old papers and dust. I walked past rows of forgotten files, each one holding secrets, untold stories, and names I didn't recognize. I approached the desk, where an older sorcerer sat. They barely looked up as I requested access to the archives and handed me the key without question.
As I dug through the files, one name caught my attention: Toshiro Ito.
The file was slightly more worn than the others, like it had been handled often. I pulled it out, flipping through the pages, skimming over the text. What I found stopped me cold.
Toshiro Ito had been conducting forbidden experiments on children – specifically, experiments to create sorcerers who could wipe cursed energy from existence. It spoke of the children involved in these experiments, their memories altered and their fates unknown.
I couldn't breathe. I knew. This file was about me.
The last known whereabouts of Toshiro Ito were listed, though the file abruptly cut off. The investigation had gone cold. But something about the way it ended... I wasn't sure if it was forgotten or hidden.
But I knew what I had to do next. I stormed out of the archives. I didn't care who stood in my way – I was going to find him.
