Sequel to My Lady
Kimora Perez has always lived between two worlds: the privileged life she's built at NYU and the gritty streets of the Bronx she returns to every summer. But when she crosses paths with Darius, a skilled basketball player with a tr...
The afternoon sun had begun to dip behind the city skyline when Darius pulled up in front of Kimora's place. His sleek black Maybach gleamed under the night. Darius pushed open the car door and stepped out, leaning against the sleek car with his arms crossed. He exhaled deeply, rubbing his hands together as he watched her step out of her house, dressed in an elegant yet dressy white dress that hugged her curves just right. Her curls bounced with each step she took, and the sight of her sent an unfamiliar warmth through his chest.
He didn't even realize how hard he was staring until Kimora let out a small laugh, shaking her head as she neared him.
"Darius, why you looking at me like that?" she teased, biting her lip, though the slight nervousness in her voice gave her away.
He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. Not a word. Not a damn thing. His tongue felt heavy, his usual slick talk nowhere to be found. He just stood there, jaw tight, hands rubbing together like he was trying to warm himself up.
Kimora tilted her head, her smile growing. "Oh, so now you quiet?"
Darius let out a low chuckle, shaking his head at himself. "Man, shut up," he mumbled, looking off to the side for a second before finally pushing off the car, standing up straight. He ran a hand over his beard, exhaling sharply.
"Hey," she greeted with a soft smile as she stepped up to him.
"Wassup beautiful," he replied, smirking as he glanced at her. "Ready for tonight? You look beautiful by the way."
"Thank you." She smiled. "You never told me where we're going."
"It's a surprise," he said opened the passenger door for her. After she slid it, he closed it, walking to the other side.
The drive was smooth, the quiet hum of the engine mixing with the faint rhythm of old-school R&B playing through the speakers. Kimora sat comfortably, her eyes flickering between Darius's profile and the city lights outside.
When they finally pulled up to the entrance of the aquarium, her eyes lit up with excitement. "The aquarium?" she asked, turning to him with surprise.
"Yeah," he said, smirking at her reaction. "I figured you'd like it."
She grinned. "I love it. How'd you know?"
"Sade...and your sister."
She laughed, shaking her head in disbelief. "You went all the way to my sister for this?"
"Man, I had to be sure you'd like it," he said, hands in his pockets as he leaned back against the car again. "Didn't want to come out here lookin' like I was playing."
