Only Gaia's thundering voice coming from the sky would have been able to produce a more astonished reaction than those words, and for a few moments it was as if the entire square had crystallized into a single expression of amazement.
The most incredulous were certainly the twelve condemned, who were already feeling the blade of the guillotine on their necks, but their companions in the crowd could not believe what was happening.

"I will now read you a statement from the citizen Prime Minister! People of Faria. I understand and respect your position, and I am sure that this decision of mine and Her Excellency has confused, and probably outraged, many of you. Therefore, from this moment on, and with the consent of His Excellency, the government that I represent also offers full amnesty to all members of the Warriors of Eirinn who decide to lay down their arms. They will be able to go to any office, court or police station in the country, where they will obtain a document certifying the granting of amnesty and the cancellation of any charges against them. By then the crowd's anger had completely turned into approval, so much so that once freed, the now former death row inmates were welcomed into their midst with hugs, kisses and handshakes, to their own great amazement.
As for Cnut and his companions, not even if the plan had failed and their companions had been killed before their eyes could they have felt worse.
