Five years, eight months and thirteen days. That's exactly how long she'd lived with anger, hatred, resentment. Not like she was taking note of the time or anything. It was amazing how much time had passed. How much hate had built up in her. Originally, there was the hunger for revenge. She'd craved seeing him going through the same pain she endured
An eye for an eye. A heart for a heart.
But alas she had pushed those thoughts behind her. Returning the hurt-favour just made her as much of a bad person as him. She shouldn't be like him. Right?
Buy how was this possible? How was he the one sitting right in front of her? Betty would never have hidden this from her. Unless she herself was in the dark too.
He was flawless as ever. She had to admit that. And she could very much see the outline of his biceps strain in the suit he wore. Had he been working out?
In that very moment, it seemed like her surroundings seemed to fade into thin air and he was all she could focus on. She could note how much his jaw line had sharpened and his gaze held nothing like what she was used to seeing five years ago.
She couldn't explain the emotions coursing through her body in that very moment. Was it shock? Anger? Rage? Confusion?
Love?
Definitely not. Not anymore.
She felt her palms grow sweaty and she placed them on the large mahogany table, trying to wage herself from falling to her feet.
He couldn't have such control over her. Not anymore. However, the question kept running through her mind.
How is he the CEO?
When she met him, he worked under one of her closest friends. Kim Namjoon. Just how much had changed in their time apart? At that time she was his client, his boss. But their status didn't make her see him any different.
She'd practically ran after him. Begged for his attention. Now that she thought about it, she was the one always pinning over him. The desperate side chick.
Pathetic.
And now as he sat before her, she realized she had always been an attention seeking freak. Such that no matter what he did to her she didn't seem to mind.
Not when he stood her up on dates. Not when he gave excuses not to meet her. Not when he abandoned her and claimed he had to attend to some very important stuff.
Lies. All lies.
She had to congratulate him for being such an excellent actor. He'd really grab an award in the entertainment industry. Acting came so naturally to him.
She only hoped fate wasn't trying to fuck with her by bringing him into her life again. She had no time for drama. Definitely no time for him.
The tension in the room was as thick as a steak and it seemed even a simple table knife wouldn't be able to cut through as the staring contest continued between the CEO and the marketing analyst.
His eyes were still beautiful. His lashes laying delicately above his eye lids. His perfect nose and red plump lips still stood out as she battled internally to stop herself from biting her bottom lip while practically ogling at him.
His unique beauty definitely put the Greek gods to shame.
Get your shit together Gina.
"Mhmm-mmhm", one member cleared his throat and snapped them out of their staring contest. She realized she'd been staring and tried hard to compose herself in order to begin her presentation.
She could swear she saw him sport a wicked smirk before she completely turned away from him and looked at the projector. Well at least she succeeded not to drool.
Throughout her presentation she triumphed in avoiding his gaze as she felt it practically burn holes into her skin. The few times she met gazes with him, she could hardly tell what he may have been thinking or feeling.
If she didn't know better, she'd have sworn he looked remorseful, hurt and he stared at her as if he'd missed her. As if he'd been longing for her. As if he cared about her.
No Gina. That's your heart trying to deceive you again. The last time you let your heart take the lead it came back in a plate shred to pieces, she convinced herself.
And so she focused solely on the presentation. A part of her really wished he would reject her proposal and kick her out, though another part of her wished he'd overlook their past and pay attention to the matter at hand.
While carefully outlining what she had compiled for her presentation, she could tell the other subordinates were impressed. Given their approving nods and not so judging eyes anymore.
