Two Weeks later ...

It's Friday night, and Emily decided to come over and watch a movie with me, not that I ever watched movies, but I only agreed because she nagged to watch one since arriving earlier.

I've been tense and stressed since receiving the news of the accident. It feels like time has drastically slowed down and nothing is improving or moving forward in life.

"Did your mom call or message to give an update on your brother and his friend, yet?" Emily asked, joining me on my couch in front of the television.

On the day mom received the call of Elijah's accident, she grabbed a duffel with a few pieces of clothing, her passport and rushed to the airport to catch the first available flight to Italy

"Yeah, she called me when I got home earlier and he is still the same, but she still does not elaborate much on his condition. She just said that he had a back injury and that he was going back into surgery, but didn't answer me when I asked if I could speak to him. Ben broke and arm and leg, but he is fine. I don't know anyone in Italy that I could contact to go to the hospital and find out more for me. What's even more strange is that I only spoke to mom a few times after she left, and it was all brief calls. Like she didn't want to speak to me at all, which is strange or maybe I'm just reading too much into everything, and mom is probably just stressed"

"Wait, didn't you mention Jessie and his siblings lived in Italy before moving back here? Why not ask him to send a friend or someone he knows that lived that side to go check on his situation for you?" Emily asked.

"Yeah, why didn't I think of that" I said, slumping back onto the couch at the realization that I don't have his number "I don't have his number, though" I sighed.

"His mother? Duh!" Emily reminded, playfully smacking her forehead.

"Well duh" I replied, and we both busted out laughing for a moment at my forgetfulness.

I swear I appreciate Emily more and more each day. She just has a way of lifting my spirit, even though for brief moments.

"Call her now, maybe she can send someone. They obviously knew people there" Emily pushed.

"Ok, let's see" I said, grabbing my phone from the coffee table, scrolling through my contacts. When I found it, I dialed it immediately before I could change my mind.

"Turn it on speaker" Emily whispered, and I did so, before placing the phone on my thigh.

"Hi Dev honey, how are you?" Mrs. B answered on the second ring, sounding a little panicked or like I've caught her by surprise.

"Hi Mrs. B, I'm good and you?" I asked. I could hear hushed voices in the background and then a door closing as the background voices disappeared.

"I'm good honey. Is something wrong?"

"No, uhm. I think my bracelet fell off in Jessie's car the other night when he took me home. Do you perhaps have his phone number so that I can ask him to check, please?" I asked.

Mrs. B giggled "anytime honey, but wait, he is in the other room. Let me call him and give my phone to him, then the two of you can talk. Hold on" she said, as the door creaked, and the noise filtered through again.

A moment later Jessie's voice came through on the other side.

"Hey Devin, how have you been?" he asked, as Emily fell backwards pretending to faint at the sound of his voice, making me smile.

"Good and you?" I asked.

"I'm good, now that I've heard your voice" he answered, as Emily now rolled onto the floor, pretending to faint again, making me giggle "Mom mentioned something about you losing a bracelet in my car and I know you're not looking for that though. You had none on when you came over the other night, so spill, let me hear what's up" he said, as Emily gave me a wide-eyed stare, probably at the revelation of me going over to their house.
