A/N: Guess what, I got the flu again! Months later when I decide to revamp this I get sick. But hey at least I'm writing this again. (I think I have commitment issues)
A/N 2: If you can't tell when reading this chapter I am super bored of this fic, but I do have ideas for a Powerless modern AU. Would you be interested in reading that? Please tell me because I'm not gonna write it if no one reads it. I WILL finish this first however.
T/W: A little bit of language, it'll be in bold.
I just gave her up. Didn't put up a fight or even think a single treasonous thought so she could be mine. Tonight, however, that changes. Just for one night. A single night where we can pretend none of this happened.
It's still early morning now, the sun barely breaking through the horizon. Currently, I should be sleeping, I would prefer to be sleeping but Pae is more important.
The plan that probably should not have taken me this long to figure out is quite simple. Somehow– I still hadn't worked out all the kinks– an anonymous message will be sent to the rooms where she is being held, telling her to head out to the poppy fields nearby to meet up. There we can talk about and plan our next moves. Not a grand escape plan but it's enough.
The whole situation is insane. I haven't even seen my brother or his advisor who he seemingly cares more about than me and my feelings. He knew– well he should've known how I feel about her.
Marriage is a huge extreme too. I was sent out to track her down through the fucking desert, twice, just to see her get married to my brother. It's a love story for the ages but that's how it goes, the beast doesn't get the beauty.
My pace quickens as I walk in semi-circles around my bed. What do I do in this scenario? What can I do? Over and over I come to the same conclusion. Talk to my brother. Right now– if he's still in the same mental state as before I left– may be harder said than done.
First and foremost, the message to Pae. Just a simple and quick letter, not directly addressed to her, in case someone– Callum– decides to open it. Any letters, even ones going to other parts of the palace, go through him. And he has been known to sneak peeks at letters. When we were children I used to send notes to Kitt, sharing what I thought was at the time, castle gossip. I'd sit in the kitchen with Gail for hours and listen to her talk to the other servants getting all the information I could.
One summer there was a rumour going around that Kitt was an illegitimate heir because his mother, whom neither of us had met, slept around when married to our father.
Looking back, telling my brother that he's an orphan and the man who treats us all like shit isn't even his father through a letter probably wasn't the most considerate thing to do.
Luckily Callum opened the letter before it could reach my brother. He called me into his office (A/N: I'm pretty sure he has an office but I forget exactly where so this isn't accurate.) and explained the entirety of my family's drama.
I wasn't paying much attention to any of it. I don't particularly care about my great-grandfather's affair with the chef who was married to his wife's sister? Why would I, they are all dead.
The only thing I could really take away is that the servants were right, Kitt actually isn't the heir. Only his mother didn't sleep around, she found him somewhere, on a diplomatic trip or something like that. She knew she couldn't get pregnant and he looked strikingly similar to my father so she took him in.
So now I'm pretty sure he's the only one who doesn't know that he's not actually our father's son, he's a bit slow when it comes to gossip and most activities that involve actual socialization or human interaction.

I leave the letter in a bin outside of Calum's creepy office.
Meet in the poppy fields at midnight.

Simple and discrete. Now I just have to make it through the day. Sadly the sun tells me it's barely 9:30. I fall back onto my mattress and search for sleep.

I should've brought a jacket or something. Hopefully, Paedyn was smarter than me, I don't want her to be cold.
Almost like I summoned her, Pae appears behind me, silver hair gleaming in the moonlight.
I smile, "Hello darling," I whisper as I wrap my arms around her.
"Cocky bastard, good to see you," She replies idly.
"What did I do to deserve that," I said before leaning down to kiss her. Pretend. Pretend she's not betrothed to my brother.
"You know what you did Azer," She says dryly.
Delivered her to what we both thought would be her execution. Yeah, I probably do deserve that.
Plan. Remember why we came out here in the first place. I have to remind myself.
"Pae," I whisper into her hair, "I have a plan,"
I don't, but I can work out the details later.
I'm back on Unless! I think Fearless gave me some inspiration... and made me sob for twenty minutes. I'll still update When the Sun Rises on a regular schedule (please check that out I swear its so much better than this) I also eventually (probably over the summer) start a one-shot book for a bunch of fandoms so watch out for that.
By the way are there any Marie Lu fans here because I just found out she's releasing a new novel in October! My favourite novel of her's is Warcross (It's also my favourite book in general)
Anyway thanks for reading!
