Ruby stirred awake, blinking against the morning light filtering through the curtains. She reached out instinctively, hand landing on cool sheets instead of the warmth of Taylor's body. Her brows furrowed slightly, but the soft sound of running water from the en suite eased her. Taylor was in the shower.

With a quiet yawn, Ruby sat up and stretched, her back cracking lightly from the events of the night before. She glanced around the bedroom as she stood, smoothing the sheets and fluffing the pillows out of habit. Her eyes fell on the side table where the gun from the night before rested, the metal glinting faintly in the morning light. A faint smirk tugged at her lips as she made a mental note to clean it later. Probably best to avoid leaving loaded weapons lying around after sex—even if the girl in question asked for it.

She padded to the bathroom door and knocked twice.

"Come in," came Taylor's voice, clear but lazy from behind the glass. Ruby pushed the door open, stepping into the warm steam that clung to the mirrors and curled around her like a hug. Taylor was still behind the foggy shower glass, and Ruby moved to the sink, splashing her face with cold water before brushing her teeth with the spare toothbrush Taylor had given her the week prior.

She was just rinsing her mouth when the shower door slid open and Taylor stepped out, naked and glistening, water trailing down her long limbs like they belonged in a painting. Ruby paused mid-motion, watching with quiet reverence as Taylor reached for her towel and wrapped it around her body, her blonde hair already sticking to the damp skin of her back.

Ruby leaned against the sink, towel forgotten over her shoulder as she watched her girlfriend with a soft, lopsided grin. "You trying to kill me first thing in the morning?" she teased.

Taylor just chuckled and walked over to nudge her playfully with her arm as she picked up her own toothbrush. "Did you sleep well?" Ruby asked simply, voice still raspy from sleep.

Taylor nodded, her mouth full of toothpaste foam, and after she finished brushing, she leaned in and kissed Ruby gently, toothpaste and all. Ruby melted into the kiss like she always did, arms wrapping around Taylor's waist over the towel.

When they pulled apart, Ruby lifted her hands to cup Taylor's face, thumbs brushing across her soft cheeks. Taylor leaned into the touch like she craved it.

"I was thinking," Taylor began, "maybe I'll invite a few of my friends over tonight. Just a small girls' night—movies, games, drinks, maybe even a little skinny dipping if the night takes us there." Her eyes sparkled with excitement.

Ruby grinned at that, brushing her thumbs up to Taylor's temples. "Yeah? That sounds fun."

Taylor beamed, then tilted her head. "You alright with that?"

Ruby nodded. "Of course I am."

Taylor's smile deepened. "Do you have any friends you want to invite?"

Ruby hesitated, her hands still gently holding Taylor's face, before shaking her head. "Lost contact with everyone about ten years ago," she said lightly. "And my job didn't exactly make it easy to build friendships." She left it vague, the words honest but incomplete. She had promised herself that Taylor would never know what her life had been before this—before Taylor. The bodyguard role, the contract, the original plan.

Taylor's eyes softened with something like understanding. She didn't press, didn't ask, just leaned forward and kissed her again. Ruby, in turn, scooped her up bridal-style with a low chuckle, making Taylor yelp and laugh as Ruby carried her back into the bedroom.

"Do you need me to pick anything up for your girls' night?" Ruby asked as she tugged on a hoodie and a pair of soft, baggy shorts.

Taylor dropped the towel and slipped into a matching lavender bra and panties. "We can go together," she said casually.
