Calling the air around them thick with tension would be an understatement.
Within the main road leading from the closed Trost Entry Gate was the main staging area for the Garrison to prepare for their major operation. Creatively dubbed: Reclaim Trost, soldiers from all ranks running countless preperations and tasks to see its completion and victory for humanity. Triple-checked their stocks and are trying their best to prepare for the upcoming battle. A majority of their forces were dedicated to assisting their once-enemy. Edged within the throng of moving bodies and under heavy surveillance were the members of the RED Team.
Every single one of them working under the guidance of another RED member with more than one brain cell. Chief among them was the Engineer, who found himself in the middle of all this chaos. "Put it there! I told you that already- no! Hey you! The blonde son-of-a-gun with a chip on his shoulder! Yeah, you! Don't look down the end of the barrel unless y'all are ready to see your grand-pappy in heaven! Dang it! Where's my nuts?! Which one of you has my nuts?!"
"Maybe Mrs. Engineer" Scout cheekily quipped as he strutted past.
Engineer spat at Scout and resumed his busy work. He impatiently waited for another shipment of supplies. Accompanied by Heavy and Soldier, Garrison soldiers acquired all the scrap and metal objects around the Trost Extension. Firearms, weapons, kitchen appliances, gas pipes and even cutlery were all collected and shipped right to Engineer. Heavy stomped through, hauling four giant crates atop his back. He toppled them off his back, letting them fall with a loud crash. The crates broke open, but none cared. If anything, it made the next group's job easier. Garrison soldiers quickly swarmed the bile and got to work sorting through the mess of nick-knacks. They were quickly shifted into piles for Engineer to collect what he needed.
Grabbing a handful of odd bits and pieces, Engineer somehow performed magic as he made the individual pieces fit together and form a tripod with just a few twists and swings of his wrench. Again, using mundane objects that had no place being put on a weapon, Engineer made one of the deadliest placements ever seen within the Walls. The newly formed Sentry was further upgraded to a level three version. Once finished, it was handed off to Spy, who led Pyro, Demo and a handful of Garrison officers to test out the ordinance.
A simple test of throwing random junk into the Sentry Gun's line of sight and seeing whether it would fire or not. Without fail, the Sentry would render the thrown item into sharp shards or a fine powder. After the testing, the Sentry would fold and compact itself into a red toolbox, ready to be transported. A duo of Garrison soldiers would then lift the heavy toolkit towards the cannon workshop. The cannon workshop is a massive building attached to a network of elevators leading up to the top of Wall Rose. As the name suggests, the cannon workshop was the hub for repairs and ammunition for Trost's battle cannons. An intricate rail system was used to haul heavy cargo from the ground up to the Walls. As such, the workshop was made as the housing for the Engineer's Sentries. The packed Sentries were placed into a rail cart and shipped off towards the elevators for transport.
All of this was overseen on the Workshop's balcony by Pixis and his subordinates. Chief among them was Eren Yeager, who looked down at the bustle below. His fists tightly gripping the railing in front of him. A loud whistle grabbed his attention. His head turned and eyes snapped onto the hard-to-miss machine chugging along one of the tracks.
Painted red, as contractually obligated, the machine was another awe-inspiring invention straight out of a novella. Much like a rail cart, it only rode on the steel rails that lined the workshop and atop the Walls. Unlike a rail cart, it rode on its own power. More accurately, the power of coal and steam. Called a "locomotive," the Engineer built it in quick succession after he was displeased by the slow progress of moving the Sentries through the Workshop and to the Wall. It took only five minutes for Engineer to bring forth another technological marvel into the world. The locomotive was capable of moving several rail carts filled with tonnes of equipment at once without needing to rest like humans or horses. All it needed was a burning fire within and a full tank of water. At least that was the broad strokes that Eren gathered through Engineer's complicated babbling.
