The ride back to their dorms felt almost unbearable.
Nano hadn't stopped talking since they left the venue, recounting every fan reaction and describing in detail how each situation had seemed from his point of view. Somehow, he had managed to drag both Thame and Pepper into the conversation as well, all three of them scrolling through different social media channels, adding fuel to the frenzy that seemed to have overtaken their entire fandom.
Dylan could hear them talk even through the music playing in his headphones, his own name being the centre of the conversation. He could not help but sigh a little as he watched the city lights pass them in a blur. The excitement of the event started to slowly drain out, leaving a hollow kind of exhaustion in its place. Every word, every notification, every laugh grated against his nerves until he felt like he might snap from it.
Beside him, Jun sat with his hands shoved deep into his jacket pockets and eyes closed. He seemed to be the picture of calmness, as if nothing in the world could bother him. Others might have even thought that he was sleeping, but Dylan knew better, catching the way Jun's feet were slightly tapping the floor in an uneven beat. It was a habit Jun had always had, something he did whenever feeling even the slightest bit of anxiety or stress. Dylan had noticed it mainly because of how annoying Jun's inability to keep the same rhythm was.
He had this strange urge to reach his hand out and to lay it on Jun's knee to stop the movement, but after everything that had happened, it seemed to be too much. So, instead, he turned his forehead to rest against the glass and closed his eyes as well, concentrating on the music playing in his ears. But somehow, even through all the noise, he could still hear the light tapping, as if it were his own heartbeat slowly starting to race.
They had barely made it inside before Nano started talking again, shoving his phone in both Dylan's and Jun's faces.
"You guys have to see this!" He was still buzzing with energy, the leftover adrenaline making him bounce around the room.
"Seriously, you guys broke the internet." Thame grinned as he threw himself down to sit on one of the beanbags. He was still scrolling through the posts, chuckling slightly whenever he saw something funny.
Dylan had been attempting to ignore it; his job was done, and the aftermath wasn't his to deal with, but the curiosity gnawed at him like an itch he just had to scratch. Finally, he snatched the phone Nano was still offering to him and started scrolling. In just a few hours, they had gathered more than a million posts, the fans tearing apart every single one of their interactions, finding meanings he himself had not even considered. Every picture he looked at made his stomach twist tighter, his fingers stopped scrolling, and his eyes were glued on the short clip of him smiling at Jun.
He wasn't sure when Jun had arrived, face looming in Dylan's peripheral vision as Jun leaned over his shoulder. The video continued repeating, Dylan's mind suddenly taken over by the faint smell of Jun's cologne.
"They are getting creative." Jun grinned, whispering the words in Dylan's ear, which made goose bumps form all around his body. Satisfied with Dylan's reaction, Jun moved along, throwing his tired body to lay on the couch.
"You should post something," Pepper said, sounding almost thoughtful, unaware of the way his words only made Dylan's body tense further.
"Yes! Let's keep the momentum going!" Nano shrieked, the energy returning into his body in an instant as his gaze flicked between Jun and Dylan, expectant.
