"Did you... did you ask me to come?"
Sara's voice echoed slightly in the quiet of Mrs. Lee's cabin as she stepped inside. The scent of expensive perfume and freshly brewed coffee hung in the air. Mrs. Lee, her sleek black hair pulled back in a sophisticated ponytail, looked up from her laptop, a soft smile gracing her lips as she registered Sara's presence. Even though she was probably in her late thirties, maybe early forties, she always carried this youthful vibe.
"Ah, Sara! Yes, come in, come in."
Mrs. Lee smoothly closed her laptop, the click echoing softly in the room. She swiveled in her plush office chair, the leather creaking gently, and then rose, her movements graceful. She gestured towards the cream-colored sofa nestled against the far wall of the cabin, inviting Sara to sit beside her. The cabin, though small, felt luxurious, with its minimalist décor and a large window overlooking the bustling company grounds.
Sara hesitated for a fraction of a second, her eyes flicking around the neat space before she walked over and settled onto the soft cushions next to Mrs. Lee. The silence stretched for a moment, thick with unspoken anticipation. Sara’s heart did a little flutter of nervousness. What was this all about?
"So, what's the matter?" Sara finally asked, her voice tinged with curiosity. She fiddled with the strap of her camera bag, a familiar comfort in her hands.
"You know how V's taking a break from his crazy schedule these days, right?" Mrs. Lee began, her tone casual but with a hint of something more. "And since you don't have his shoots to handle at the moment... well, I thought of entrusting you with a little something else."
Sara frowned slightly, her eyebrows drawing together in confusion. "What kind of something else?"
Mrs. Lee leaned back against the sofa, her expression thoughtful. "We recently signed a new model with incredible potential. He has his first official photoshoot tomorrow. And since you're free from V's commitments... I was wondering if you could handle it. Our other photographers are swamped right now, and honestly, Sara, I really admire your eye. Plus," she added with a playful wink, "the company will compensate you separately for this."
A warm smile spread across Sara's face. She could never say no to Mrs. Lee, who always treated her with respect and a friendly demeanor, even though their relationship wasn’t exactly super tight bestie level. And extra pay was always a good motivator.
"Okay, I'll do it," Sara agreed, a sense of professional curiosity piqued. "But... who's the model?"
As soon as the words left her lips, a strange flutter went through her stomach. She hoped it wasn't anyone too… demanding.
Mrs. Lee glanced at her elegant wristwatch, a delicate gold piece that always seemed to catch the light just so.
"Hmm, he went to meet the CEO about an hour ago... should be back any minute now. Can you wait a little longer?"
"Oh, yeah, no problem at all." Sara shifted comfortably on the sofa, her initial nervousness fading into anticipation.
"So, how did those photos turn out? Did you finish editing them?" Mrs. Lee asked, settling back against the cushions, her gaze now fixed on Sara with genuine interest.
Sara knew she was referring to the shots from New York Fashion Week – the ones of V and his ex-girlfriend, Mila. The memory still left a bitter taste in her mouth. Seeing them together, so intimate, in the dimly lit underground parking lot... it had been like a punch to the gut. That's when she'd started building these walls around her, trying to ignore the confusing mess of feelings she had for V.
"Ah, yes... I edited them all. I sent them over to you earlier." Sara tried to keep her tone neutral, not wanting to betray the turmoil that still simmered beneath the surface whenever she thought about V and Mila.
