IRREVOCABLE. ❞

THEY SAY EVEN MOONS has a dark side, always hidden and rarely spoken of. Maybe that's what trust felt like sometimes. Just because you believe in it doesn't mean you see everything.

Han Ye Seul sat at her desk, her chin barely resting on her knuckles as the teacher droned on at the front like he was some martyr of the education system. He was yelling something again about respect, discipline, and how students these days lacked the basic courtesy of listening. Ye Seul barely heard him. Her ears were ringing, her mind somewhere else entirely.

The words Hyo Man had whispered to her earlier gnawed at her skull like a broken record stuck on its most hateful lyric.

"You really think Go Hyun Tak didn't bet on you?"

She didn't want to believe it. Couldn't. Hyun Tak had always been an asshole, sure. Loud-mouthed, infuriating, and rough around the edges like he'd been sandpapered into a person but he wasn't cruel. Not to her and not like that. But doubt had a way of rooting in places even trust couldn't quite reach.

She hated it. Hated that her chest felt this tight and her thoughts this muddled over someone who'd never even said he liked her, let alone said he didn't.

A sharp voice cut through her thoughts. "Whose chair is that?" Ye Seul blinked and followed the teacher's line of sight and she saw Jun Tae's chair was vacant.

Her brows knitted. She leaned a little to check. Yeah. He really wasn't there.

"When was the last time you saw him?" she whispered sideways to Si Eun. He shook his head, then looked forward and actually or more like shockingly opened his mouth.

"He's been gone since fifth period." Gasps scatteredthat some students whipped their heads like they'd just witnessed a miracle.

The teacher, too, looked halfway stunned. "What's gotten into you, Si Eun? You speak now?" and that only made Ye Seul's blood boiled.

She stood up so abruptly her chair squeaked, her palms slamming flat on the desk with a loud thud. "This is ridiculous!" she barked. "Shouldn't we be worried that Jun Tae's been missing for hours? It's not like him to just skip class! What if something happened? What if someone picked on him again, huh?! He's literally the size of a backpack and you all know it!"

The teacher narrowed his eyes. "Sit down, Ye Seul. You're not the class monitor. Don't raise your voice at me."

Si Eun spoke up again, undeterred. "I think she's right. What if something happened?"

The teacher stared at both of them, unimpressed. He closed his book with a loud thwack, folding his arms. "What could possibly happen? If he's not here, he's not here. Have Jun Tae to come see me tomorrow."
