Luffy woke up in the same spot where he had fallen asleep; only now, the difference was that it was 4 o'clock, and his hat had fallen to the ground, surrounded by stray creatures. He smiled and returned his hat to its rightful place, alerting the creature and scattering into the trees or bushes.

"Yosh! Let's get going, or they might get suspicious." Luffy jumped and swung from tree to tree. His mind was clear after seeing Roger in Merry's world. Most of his negative thoughts had left, and he could barely remember what he and Ussop's mom had talked(argued) about.

He could see the port after swinging for a few minutes, and increased his pace. More than three-quarters of the crew were there, tying up loose ends. 'Thanks, old man Roger, for waking me up. They might have had to search the whole island to find me, or worse, left without me.'

Luffy lamented at that thought, visibly crinkling his face. He wouldn't put it past them, but at the same time, they keep promises. In the original timeline, when they met again after years of sailing, Benn finally taught Luffy how to use a gun.

They made a promise/bet before he ate the gomu gomu no mi when he tried to persuade Benn instead of the usual Shanks to take him, which was smart of him on his part, but still the same response. He could remember that clearly as if it were a day.

"How about this?" Benn stared while putting out his cigarette. "Once you become a great pirate like you promised Shanks, I'll teach you to use a gun." Young Luffy looked offended at that. "Huh!? Why do I need to? Just take me with you!" Benn smirked, struggling to hide a snicker. 

"You said you're punches are like pistols, ya?" you could hear Luffy's mumble 'ack' as he started sweating profusely. "How can you quote one quote, punch like pistols if you don't know how they work or how to use them?" Another choking sound was made and heard.

He only said that because guns look cool, especially when Benn uses them, but he wasn't going to admit it to that man. "You gotta at least know how to fight and use a weapon if you wanna sail with us, let alone be a pirate," Benn added, making Luffy step back.

While he hated to admit it, it was true. He had no comeback. He knew that everyone in Shanks' crew didn't have devil fruits and had to fight with their swords or guns. Benn patted Luffy's head, not pushing any further. "Become a good pirate, and when we meet again, I'll teach you how to use a gun."

"What good will it do when I've become a pirate?" Luffy asked without thinking. One of the few times his brain became logical. "That I can't answer. But who knows? Knowing you, you might eat a devil fruit one day and be forced to use a gun, or you'll be challenged to a duel at noon or a davy back fight." 

"What?" Luffy said, shooting Benn a confused look, "You'll understand when you become a pirate. But I'm trying to say you can't come with us." Luffy nodded, and Benn kept rubbing his head with a soft smile. Luffy, this round understood and gave up, and without any drastic measures *cough* *cough* stabbing his face *cough*.
