My hand reaches over to Leon's face, his cheek hot against my fingers—real against my fingers. He's been gone for so long, I thought he was back to being fictional. But right now he isn't. He's right there. I keep my touch light, tracing through the shadows of bruises under his jaw. His breath hitches, his shoulders relaxing and his eyes closing just for a second as he eases under my fingers.
I can't help the smile tugging on my mouth.
“Don't do that, you're going to make me melt.” He chuckles softly, biting his lip to fight it off.
“Okay?” I laugh, letting my hand fall away—a shadow of sadness ghosting over his expression as soon as it does.
“You don't have an idea how relieved I am to see you, do you?” His voice drops—cracks—and the bed creaks again as he scoots closer, his hip touching mine, a flash of heat suddenly taking the space between us.
And I could have sworn he's going to lean in to kiss me again.
“Th-there's a bathroom right there!” I blurt, pointing to the other side of the room. “Maybe you should shower first. It'll help you feel better. Plus, you stink like a zombie.”
He rolls his eyes, a grin creeping through his face. “I may stink like an infected but at least I'm still hot.”
Can't argue with that.
