Chapter 9

Daniels POV

I woke up to my phone ringing. I groaned, grabbing at the sheets for my phone, praying it wasn't some telemarketer. Opening my eyes felt like a herculean task. When I feel it in my hands, I press answer and put it to my ear without ever lifting my head off the pillow.
"Hello?" I groan sleepily as I close my eyes again, already half way back to sleep.

"Daniel?" I hear a gruff voice on the other end and I open my eyes just slightly to look at the screen. I don't recognize the number, so I put the phone back to my ear.

"Who the hell is this?" I ask, still groggy as I roll onto my back slowly.

"This is Alpha Rivera." The deep voice replied evenly.

I jumped up to a seated position on the bed. The name hit me like a bucket of ice water, waking me instantly. The events of the last 24 hours rush back to me and I go stiff when I realize who this man is on the phone.

"Oh... ." I stammered lamely as I frantically scrambled to my feet and started pacing my now dimly lit bedroom. "Right. Uh, hi." My words came out rushed and awkward.

He chuckled– a low, rich sound that sent a shiver down my spine. "Did I wake you? I apologize if it's late, I didn't think to check the time difference in New York."

"Um, it's... " I stopped pacing momentarily to look at the time on my phone screen. "It's 6:35pm." I replied.

"Oh... ?" He said in a silent question of 'why am I asleep this early'. I guess he wouldn't understand. I'm sure an Alpha could never understand all the crap I've been through in the last 24hrs! He's had his whole life to prepare to one day be told that your soulmate is someone who lives across the country and is of a different species.

"So you're an Alpha?" Shit, that sounded lame!

"Uh Yeah. The Sol Millio Pack." He said awkwardly.

"Right..." I said. I felt anger bubbling in my chest. I was supposedly tied to this man who I knew nothing about. This random mother fucker who I had never even met. Who lived across the country. And yet apparently because of some genetic defect I'm just supposed to believe that he's who I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with.

I ran a hand through my hair, still pacing back and forth in an attempt to gather my thoughts. My heart was pounding, the entire situation felt surreal. The last 24 hours had been a rollercoaster of emotions and now this guy, an Alpha Werewolf was talking to me like everything was fine.

"So... So what now? I'm just supposed to believe that you're my soulmate based off of some genetic glitch in my blood?" I say as I finally stop pacing, freezing in the middle of my room.

The silence between us hung in the air for a few moments, my words still echoing in my mind. The idea that this man, this Alpha, thought he could just waltz into my life without any warning made my blood boil.

"You're angry," he said finally, almost to himself. "I thought you'd be... scared."

"So how are these conversations supposed to go?" I ask deflecting. Because I'm not talking to him about me being or not being scared. "Hi, I know we haven't met before, but our blood test says we're soulmates, so you wanna spend eternity with me?"

He hesitates for a moment as if unsure how to respond "I don't know how these conversations usually go, this is my first time finding a mate too Daniel."
