The next day, when Sujeong repeated to her friends about the things that had happened the previous day with Taehyung, Hyejin immediately sensed something and blurted, "Oh, I think I sense a chemistry! What do you think, Yeonju-ya?" "Oh well, it's pretty obvious, duh," said Yeonju. Sujeong immediately answered, "Uh, what do y'all mean? We just know each other's names, and suddenly something like that happened yesterday. I'm not sure what exact chemistry is in here," Sujeong said nonchalantly, but the last sentence in a fun way. "Oh well, you won't understand now, Sujeong-ah," Hyejin responded. She again added, "I may not know my brother very well, but of course I know you. So tell me honestly, you like him, don't you?"
Never in her nightmares did Sujeong ever think she would fall for someone so random. The thought of liking Taehyung never crossed her mind. It's true that she felt kind of nervous around him, but she never knew she was capable of liking someone after what had happened to her in her last year of middle school. Although she considered that to be her past, she couldn't ignore the fact that there had been a boy in her life who broke her heart in more than one way.

FLASHBACK
(4th Year of Middle School)"Ms. Sujeong, you're late to class. What excuse do you have? Did you wake up late, or did the bus run late? Or are you going to give the same excuse as Juhyun that your dog ate your homework? Huh?" Mr. Jung, their Korean teacher, yelled. "Uh, sir, actually I woke up late because I had a slight fever yesterday evening," Sujeong answered. "Oh, I see. You may enter the class and sit at your desk," Mr. Jung said with a contrite tone, knowing he had overreacted. Sujeong went to her seat and sat beside Hyejin. Hyejin whispered, "Sujeong-ah, are you okay? You know you didn't have to come today." "Yeah, I'm okay. I felt fine this morning, so I came to school. I'd have been bored at home anyway, so of course I'd come to school to have a good time with you," Sujeong answered with a smile. Hyejin couldn't deny that Sujeong's smile was really pretty, and it always made her day bright because that's how Sujeong is: making everyone around her happy just by existing.
Hyejin and Sujeong had been friends since the 2nd year of high school when they were placed in the same class section. Hyejin was pretty outgoing and had a cool personality. She easily became friends with Sujeong when they were made deskmates. They shared lunch, gossiped, and played in the field together. Although their personalities were quite different, they were still able to become good friends. Sujeong always supported Hyejin's dream of becoming a fashion designer. Sometimes, Hyejin would draw a sketch of the clothing outfit using her imagination and show it to Sujeong. Sujeong always wished she could wear Hyejin's clothing someday. Thereby, they eventually grew closer.
Now, Juhyun, the guy whose dog ate his homework, was a fun guy. Although Sujeong wasn't quite friends with him, he would come by Sujeong's desk and never let a chance to talk to her slip away. He was also really outgoing and had an affable personality. On top of that, he was certainly a handsome guy.
There were times when he would flirt, and Sujeong was too innocent to understand. Thankfully, she had Hyejin, who was clever enough to understand his intentions. "I think that Juhyun guy likes you," Hyejin said. Sujeong's cheeks immediately flushed. She mumbled, "What do you mean? That can't be true. He's too handsome to even look at me." "Duh, you must be blind not to see how exactly he looks at you. You're just too innocent, Sujeong-ah." "Oh no, that's not true." And right when she said that, Juhyun came and interrupted them, "What's not true?" "Uh, nothing. We were just talking about today's lunch menu, haha," Sujeong replied.
This way, a few months flew by, and Juhyun was trying his best to impress Sujeong. He even planned on proposing to her to be his girlfriend. He approached Hyejin to get some ideas. "Hyejin-ssi, I don't think there's anyone who knows Sujeong better than you." "What the actual hell? Why don't you get to the point?", Hyejin retorted, and her eyebrows heightened. For some reason, Hyejin didn't like Juhyun's vibes. Although she thought Juhyun was harmless, she didn't quite like his presence around her. "Um, I wanted to ask about Sujeong's favorite flower. Does she have any?" "Yeah, I guess she likes white roses. And just so you don't annoy me anymore, let me tell you she likes milk chocolates a lot, and her favorite colors are white, jade green, and navy blue. Now bye," Hyejin spat with the most fake smile possible.
Juhyun smirked. He was impressed with Hyejin's answer because he got to know a lot of information even without asking her. He planned on wishing her a happy birthday on 27 July which was only a week away.

On the day of her birthday, Juhyun bought a nice cake for Sujeong and a beautiful ring (with his dad's money, DUH). He asked Sujeong to meet him at the nearby park in the evening. On the other hand, Hyejin had already told Sujeong about what Juhyun wanted to know from her a few days back. Therefore, Sujeong already knew what was going to happen.
On Sujeong's part, she started liking Juhyun the day he bought her favorite after-lunch snack. Hyejin initially warned Sujeong to be aware of Juhyun's intentions, but there came a point when Hyejin too thought that Juhyun was a good guy and that he would treat her right. Thereafter, she let Sujeong make her own decision about whether to give him a chance or not. Anyway, when Sujeong reached the park, she saw him sitting on a bench. He immediately got up when he saw her walking towards him. "Happy birthday, Sujeong-ssi. I hope you become happier every day and stay all cute and smiley." Sujeong blushed. "Thank you, Juhyun-ssi."
Juhyun then opened the cake box, took out the cake, and lit the candles. Sujeong immediately melted at the sight of the cake. It was a beautiful pink and white colored cake decorated with small crushed balls, and it said, "Happy birthday to my favorite girl.♡"
Sujeong made a wish and blew out the candle. She cut the cake, and they fed a piece of it to each other. "Sujeong-ssi, there are so many things on my mind right now, and I can't seem to find any nice and fancy words to say." Then she noticed Juhyun kneeling on his left leg on the ground, taking out a ring box from his pocket. He held the box in his right hand and looked upwards towards Sujeong, saying, "Sujeong-ssi, will you be my girlfriend?"
Sujeong was a blushing mess. She too couldn't find any nice words to reply, so she chose the simplest word to answer him: "Yes, I will."
Therefore, they started going out. But not for too long, because soon enough, Sujeong discovered something about Juhyun that broke her heart into a million pieces.
