Haider stood before the podium, the murmurs of the press room buzzing in his ears. Flashes from camera shutters flickered across his face as he stepped up, gripping the edges of the lectern. The air was thick with anticipation—questions, accusations, curiosity—and for a moment, he let his gaze sweep over the crowd. Faces stared back at him, hungry for a headline. He exhaled slowly, steadying himself.

"Assalamualaikum," his voice rang clear, calm despite the storm in his chest. "I have always tried to keep my personal and professional lives separate. I've never believed in dragging private matters into the public eye. Football is my passion, my responsibility. Everything beyond that, I choose to keep private."

But he didn’t get to finish.

"Who is Mia to you, Haider?"

"Are you and Mia Lauren dating?"

"When’s the wedding?"

More voices piled in, layered over one another like waves crashing into him.

Haider fisted his hand behind the podium, jaw clenched. His heart raced. The chaos of voices blurred into a low hum in his head. He wanted to scream—scream that it was all a lie. He had nothing to do with Mia beyond an unfortunate moment at an event. But the words from his manager echoed like poison:

Don’t deny it completely. The team needs attention. Brands are watching. Think of the team, Haider.”

But his heart whispered something else.

Think of her.”

He shut his eyes for a fleeting second. When he opened them, the fire was still there—but colder, more controlled.

He raised his hand gently to quiet the room. "I understand your questions. I do. But not every picture tells the truth. And not every silence is a confession. Some things... are not what they seem. But time reveals everything."

A subtle hint. It's not a confession. Not a lie. Just enough.

He hadn’t lied. He couldn’t.

She knew.

Immediately after the conference, she called her boss.

"Sir, I’m going off the radar for a few days. I’ve figured out what’s going on—I just need proof. Once I have the full story, I’ll send you the report. Don’t call me till then."

Her boss tried to interrupt, but she didn’t let him.

"This story is bigger than just a gossip headline. Let me do it right."

She hung up and leaned back in her chair, her first real breath in days escaping her lungs. She opened her bag, pulled out her notepad, and jotted down the address for the charity gala venue where the initial pictures had been taken.

She had a lead. She would trace it.

Meanwhile, Mia Lauren wasn’t done.

Later that evening, her Instagram story updated with another photo from the healthcare event—a still of her standing onstage, handing a bouquet to Haider. A perfectly timed capture. Haider’s smile was polite and distant. The angle made them look closer than they were. And yet the caption was what stung the most:

“The picture tells the story" #Chemistry #UnspokenLove”

The picture tells the story" #Chemistry #UnspokenLove”

The post spread like wildfire. Fan pages lit up. Tabloids reposted the image with blazing headlines:

“Confirmed? Haider Kazi and Mia Lauren’s Spark Goes Back A Year!”

“Mia Drops Hint About Secret Romance Timeline!”

Haider kazi doesn't deny it either

Haider saw the post while sitting in his car outside the stadium, his phone trembling in his hands. The caption wasn’t just misleading—it was manipulative. He knew Mia played dirty, but this… this was cruel.

His first instinct was to call her. To tell her to take it down. But what would he say? What power did he have over someone who was playing the long game for her own gain?

He closed his phone and leaned back against the seat. He was tired. I'm tired of running from lies. Tired of protecting an image that wasn’t his. I'm tired of being misunderstood.

In that moment, all he wanted was to see her.

Anaya.

He didn’t know if she hated him. Didn’t know if she believed the storm. But a part of him hoped that somehow, she saw past the noise.

Back in the city, Anaya stood outside the chaity gala venue. Her hands were cold despite the warm evening air. She looked up at the towering glass structure, heart pounding. She didn’t come here for revenge or even to prove Haider right.

She came because she believed him.

And now, she needed the world to believe him, too.
