─━━━━━━⊱✿⊰━━━━━━─
"She wishes to have an Imperial Marriage with my brother, Koshar."
Your entire face stiffens, stuck in that customer service smile. Your mind goes blank, and a comical loading screen appears above your head. You're lagging—the signal is weak and the services are slow.
Koshar, getting married with someone else?
What?
You're so taken aback, you can't even ask Navier to repeat herself because you most definitely heard that right.
"Oh."
Hold on, holdonholdondholdon.
"It seems the decision will take some time to be made. There is no pressure or rush, my family and I will await the news." Princess Chalet smiles, sensing the atmosphere within the room. She doesn't miss the way you uncharacteristically freeze, the way the Empress flares in anger and the way the Emperor just grins in amusement.
After excusing herself, she leaves for her departure back home.
"( y/n ), if you don't want the marriage to happen then—"
You shake your head, "No, it's unfair to leave the decision up to me. This is between Princess Chalet and Koshar." It's the only logical explanation you can come up with. It's the only thing you could think of without being selfish. You and Koshar are nothing but close friends, and you have kept a line drawn all these years, so it's unfair to prevent this decision just because you feel...
Jealous? Scared?
You don't want to deal with it.
"I will speak to him." Navier sighs, moving closer to wrap her arms around you in an embrace.

So much for a good morning.
It's afternoon now, and you're back in your ducal household, reading through the letters you've received in your office to get your mind off of the sudden proposal. Your eyes drift to the julian calendar, the date of today reminding you of the events currently happening in the Eastern Empire.
The paternity test is supposed to be today.
Then, as if on cue, you spot a letter addressed to you from none other than Duke Ergy, his name signed on the front cover of the envelope.
You read through the contents that explain what went down during the paternity test in clear detail. To no surprise, the Princess, Glorym, is stripped of her title after the blood test confirmed her father to not be the Emperor. Rashta cried and pleaded for a retest, insisting she had slept with no other man besides her husband. She screamed, shed more tears, and repeated the process of begging.
To add salt to the wound, Duke Ergy brings Rashta's first born child, and they drag out the son of the Viscount who is forced to take a paternity test with the two babies.
The results are obvious—He is the father of the two children, confirming Rashta's betrayal and Sovieshu's shame.
The entire Empire was deceived by an atrocious fraud.
As you reach the end of the letter, you're disappointed to read that he will be traveling to the Western Empire soon, and will talk to you personally regarding the confrontation he had with Rashta as soon as the Paternity test had done.
At least, the closing act has come.
You can imagine your childhood friend wallowing in his regret, asking himself why he couldn't trust his own wife.
You were right, because Sovieshu kneels against the painting of him and his former wife—the very same woman he promised to love until death did them apart. Looking back, Navier always tried to speak to him about that woman. He refused to accept certain emotions, shielding himself with false lies he fed himself and his mistress.
Perhaps they could have resolved everything through a mature conversation.
Perhaps if he had just taken a moment of his time and listened to his wife, he could have been by her side right now, holding her hands and laughing with her once more.
It was he, who rejected her.
Should he have listened?
If he had, it wouldn't have been so painful.
He drowns in his sorrows and tears, wanting nothing else but to be in the arms of his wife.
Sorry, ex-wife.
You think about going to Navier, providing her comfort. But knowing her, she must have moved on, thanks to that loving bird brain husband of hers. This kind of news no longer affects her, and it will no longer strain the happiness she deserves.
Smiling to yourself, you shift in your seat, planning the next few days out in your head. The trail of Viscount Lotteshu and his son will have a set date soon, and Sovieshu will most likely have him meet Lebetti, who is under your care. You've given him the location of the girl, so things shouldn't be a problem on that side. Rashta's trail will be set soon as well, and all you need to do is find a letter from the Eastern Imperial court requesting you to attend as a witness.
And Delise.
She can go home too.
You can see her cleaning your garden from the window, a brighter smile on her face than when she had first come here. She chats and giggles with the other servants, looking much more carefree.
She can go see her family now.
You smile, resting your chin on the palm of your hand.
The tranquility in the Western Imperial Place and your duchy is a stark contrast to the atmosphere in Lady Christa's household. Her older brother discovers that his little sister—the same sister he had looked after all his life, the same sister he loved and swore to protect was fooled into taking her own life, believing her own father had disowned her.
The pain in his chest is suffocating. It's drowning him alive and he can't bear the thought of his sister—alone and afraid, isolated from her family and believing she had been abandoned.
How could the Emperor do that to his sweet sister?
He will never allow the Emperor to live on unpunished for his crimes.
Th Emperor continues to live happily with his wife whilst he and his family continue to suffer and fall from their high seat? It's unfair.
