ANA POV

The moment I opened my eyes to see the person who had saved me, and then I almost wished I'd just let myself fall flat on the ground instead.

Him? Seriously?

Of all people on this planet, he had to be the one.

I instantly jerked my hand away from his grip as if it burned me, glaring at him with enough venom to knock out an army.

He just stood there — with that annoying, smug smile that made me want to slap it off his face with a brick.

Ugh.

I glanced down at my hand and made a disgusted face. Great. Now I'll have to wash this hand three times with dettol, sanitize it, and maybe even dip it in holy water.

He opened his mouth to say something—probably something annoyingly flirty and full of himself—

THWACK!

A flying jutti came from the left like a homing missile and smacked him right on the head with full force.

I blinked.

He blinked.

Oh no.

"KUTTTEEEE!"
And there came Vaisho, came striding toward him like an angry storm goddess, her voice echoing through the street.

The poor guy looked utterly betrayed by the universe as he clutched his head, his eyes widened in sheer horror as they landed on Vaisho.

And me?

I just closed my eyes and sighed in pure embarrassment.

Not here, Vaisho. Please, not in public at least...

Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, he — the human living mosquito — scrambled behind me like I was his personal human shield, muttering like a terrified squirrel.

"Please Ana, save me from this Kali Maa! I swear I won't do it again!"

What even is this man?

I rolled my eyes so hard I might've seen my past life. Before Vaishu could land her next deadly strike, I quickly raised both hands between them, signing, "Stop! Not here!"

Vaisho huffed like an angry bull, glaring at him like she could set him on fire with just her stare.

Then she scowled and snapped, "No, Ana! I'll kill him right here, right now, and personally deliver his body to Manikarnika Ghat!"

My eyes went wide.

Excuse me??

I gave her a what is wrong with you?! look and signed, "You sound insane."

Meanwhile, this insect — who clearly hadn't evolved enough to learn when not to speak — opened his mouth, gasping theatrically.

"Haww Vaishnavi! Have some shame-shame, yaar! We're standing by the Ganga. Ganga Maiya can hear you!"

I winced.

Wrong move.

Vaisho's glare intensified like a storm cloud about to burst.

"Chup kar, nalli ke kidde!" she snapped. "You have the guts to show up here after leaving all your work for a whole week without telling anyone?!"

He flinched at her tone, then huffed, stomping one foot like an overgrown toddler. "I just went to have some fun, okay?!"

Vaisho didn't even blink. "Then when I kill you, make sure you have the same fun in hell... Mr. Sameer Gupta!"
