AUTHOR POV :
Anna's body shivered slightly when Alexander placed a kiss on her chest—just above her heart. Not sinful. Not lustful. But so intimate, it rattled her.
She hadn't expected it.
Neither the way her breath caught in her throat...
Nor the way his lips lingered there, as if he was sealing a silent vow only he understood.
Before she could react, he slowly lifted her up in his arms—bridal style. One arm under her knees, the other around her back, pressed so tightly against his chest it was impossible to move.
"You're tired," he whispered, his voice a rough hush. "Let me take care of you tonight."
Anna didn't say anything. Her arms wrapped loosely around his shoulders. Her face pressed into his neck. She could feel the tension coiled under his skin, the possessiveness simmering just beneath his calm.
He walked slowly, as if carrying a precious artifact—his entire world.
When they reached the bedroom, he didn't let her go. He just walked in and sat on the edge of the bed with her still in his arms.
"Don't go," she whispered softly, surprising even herself.
Alexander looked down at her, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then a slow, dark smile stretched across his lips.
"I wasn't going to," he murmured, pressing his lips gently to her forehead.
"I'd sleep chained to you if I could."
He finally laid her down on the bed—but he didn't move away. Instead, he removed his coat and shirt in silence, revealing the inked lines of his past, his muscles tense from restraint. Then he slipped under the blanket beside her, fully clothed below the waist.
His arms pulled her back into him instantly, like magnets snapping into place.
Anna's face rested on his bare chest, listening to his heartbeat—loud, erratic. His fingers lazily traced her spine over the fabric of her churidar, his touch feather-light but burning.
She didn't understand it fully... but something about tonight felt irreversible.
"You scare me sometimes," she admitted softly, eyes closed.
"But I don't want to run."
Alexander stilled.
Then whispered low, almost like a prayer—
"I won't hurt you. Even if I burn the world down... it will never touch you."
His hands tightened around her waist. Protective. Possessive. Desperate.
He pressed another kiss to the top of her head, burying his face in her hair.
"I missed you like a madman, Anna," he murmured.
"I sleep like a corpse without you beside me."
She didn't reply. Her fingers just curled against his chest—a silent response he would treasure more than any word.
The night passed slowly.
No heat. No rushed desires.
Just two tangled souls—one loving dangerously, the other learning how to feel it without fear.
And for the first time in his violent life, Alexander slept peacefully.
Because she was in his arms.
