They soon reached the centre where a loud commotion filled the air.

People were gathered in a tight crowd.

They were murmuring excitedly.

"What's going on?" Daphne asked one of the noble ladies nearby.

The woman, who had soft brown hair and pink eyes, smiled eagerly. "Everyone's excited to see today's winner."

Of course, it won't be the bear.

"Who is the winner?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

"They say it's a rare black dragon. One of the few left in the empire. Apparently, a knight managed to hunt it."

A knight?

The lady went on, "He claims to be from the Borfot Duchy. He says he's the personal bodyguard of the new lady there."

Borfot Duchy? Personal bodyguard?

Wait... that means William!

Her face lit up for a moment.

A dragon! I knew he was reliable. The greatest character ever!

Daphne turned to the emperor with a smug look, ready to make a sarcastic remark.

But before she could speak, Sirius suddenly asked, "Lady, aren't you the lady of the Borfot Duchy? Who is this new lady they're talking about?"

"Yes," Maximilian added. His voice was calm but effective.

Daphne froze.

Her mind went blank as reality began to sink in.

The cheers grew louder, and as the crowd parted, she could finally see clearly.

William was kneeling on the ground, holding one of the dragon's wings. His head was bowed respectfully, not to her, but to another woman standing in front of him.

A woman with long golden hair, soft hazel eyes, and fair skin. Her pink dress shimmered under the sunlight.

No... this can't be...

Daphne's breath hitched as her eyes widened.

It was none other than the one she feared most.

Cordelia Borfot.
