The aliens hit fast and they hit hard. Within three months, they had taken over nearly the entire planet. The sheer size of their forces overwhelmed the human armies within a week or two each. Soon enough there were only a few pockets of human held territory in a couple of countries. In the United States, three cities had not been overrun yet. They were Washington, D.C., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Des Plaines, Illinois.
Des Plaines had been turned into fully functioning military base. There were Abrams tanks, Humvees, Blackhawks, Apaches, Pelicans, and Marines everywhere.
Will and Zorra were standing near a building that had been turned into an ammo dump along with Guoh and Kewa.
Sgt. Faraday approached them with his fire team. "Sir, the other alien defectors arrived a few minutes ago, would you like me to go fetch them?" he asked.
Will nodded "Yes that would be great." He answered.
"Alright, let's go." Faraday said to his fire team and they jogged off towards where the defectors had been dropped off.
The two new defectors, Sorcha and Neila, were standing next to the Pelican that had dropped them off, not quite sure what to do.
Faraday approached them "Hey, you two the new alien defectors?" he asked, even though their claw-like hands, pupil-less eyes, and strangely colored hair made it obvious.
Sorcha nodded "Yup, that's us." Neila said.
"Good. Will wants to see you." Faraday replied. "If you could follow me, there's not a moment to waste." He turned and began making his way back towards where Will was with the two other aliens following.
Meanwhile, the SWAT team was planning their tactics out.
"Alright, let's go over this one more time." Starken said, looking around at the men gathered around the table. They were joined by a detective, Rayne Blintze, who was a werewolf. "Qin will be up in the watchtower that overlooks I-94 and the Voltaire Forest. Rankins, Zuton, and I will be on the ground on I-94, and Mendez, Westly, and Ray will be in the building that's across I-94 from the watchtower." He said. "Let's go."
They headed out, taking their positions. Qin flew up to the watchtower, setting down his M82 and an M14 DMR. He got situated, flipping the caps on the scope up. He adjusted it slightly, and then began scanning the forest and along the interstate for enemies.
Deep within the Voltaire Forest, unknown to the humans, two Phantoms deposited a scouting party consisting of 45 aliens led by the ESN's deputy, Ylant. They moved quickly through the forest, following the outline of I-94 towards Des Plaines.
Back in Des Plaines Will took the rest of the aliens into the ammo dump. He led them to the back, past the arsenal of human weapons, to a door guarded by two Marines.
Will nodded to them and the one on the right turned around and swiped a key card. There was a click and he opened a box that held the keys to the door, which he unlocked an opened.
The aliens filed into a room that was identical to the one before, except this, one was filled with alien weapons.
Guoh grinned, "It's about time we got some weapons we knew how to use." He said, picking up a Needler. He also grabbed two Bright Lance pistols and an energy sword.
Will nodded "That's what I thought as well." He said, picking up an M142 machine gun, an energy sword, and a Bright Lance to go with his revolver.
The rest of the aliens picked out their weapons, some more timidly than the others. Once they had their weapons, they exited the alien part of the armory and found Faraday and his team in the human part, stocking up on ammo. Once they had all been rearmed, the group made their way outside into the shade of a tree to relax before all hell broke loose.
