He picked up a strange looking device on his bed, and another one that looked like a long rectangle. He pressed a button and a large screen shimmered with light. I walked across the room and stood by a large shelf, full of what seemed like the ancient learning devices. Books. Suddenly there was a loud thump from what sounded like it was from Avalon's room. I could hear giggling too. The thump had triggered my reflexes and ran into the shelf. Not realizing what was happening I noticed Dylan stand up. He reached for me and said something but I couldn't hear it. Everything was moving in slow motion. I felt him grab my arm and I was yanked away from the shelf. I heard a loud crash and everything was back to normal. I turned around. The shelf had fallen over.
"Watch out next time okay?" He said, still holding my arm.
I nodded. The door swung open.
"ATLAS ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!"
Avalon stood in the hall. Her hair was a mess and in strange places.
"She's fine, the shelf just fell." Dylan said.
"JUST fell?!?? Dylan what the heck!!"
"Hey it's not my fault it fell because you and your dumb friends keep stomping around in your room!"
"MY DUMB FRIENDS?!? YOU KNOW WHAT DYLAN I-"
"NO AVALON YOU KNOW I-"
They began shouting and yelling at each other across the room.
"STOP!" I shrieked, echoing through the house.
They stared at me in disbelief.
"It was MY fault. Not Dylan's, not yours, not your friends either. Me."
"Aww.. Atlas no-" they said in unison. They then turned and glared at each other.
"Shut up." They said again in unison.
"Okay bye." They said AGAIN in unison.
Avalon stormed away from the hall, and Dylan tried to pick up his shelf.
"Hey, I hate to ask this but.. Uh.. Can you help me?"
"Sure."
I went to the other end of the shelf.
"Three, two, one, LIIFFTT!"
We began to pick up the shelf. My arms morphed into those of a gorilla making it even easier to lift up the shelf. The shelf was finally up and my arms went back to normal. I noticed the shelf was now empty, and books and other things were scattered on the floor.
"What about those?"
"Shh... Don't worry 'bout that. Just sit down till your dare is up."
I nodded and sat next to him. I watched him do what he was doing with the screen and the strange device. He aggressively tapped buttons on the device which triggered movements on the screen. I suspected he was controlling something.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm playing a game."
"What is it about?"
"It's about shooting your enemies."
"Is it war?"
"Nah.. Wanna try?"
"Sure."
He handed me a controller and pointed it each button. It seemed like a lot to remember but I could get the hang of it. He started the game and I started moving. In an instant my entire body was immersed in the game. The buttons seemed embedded in my head, memorized, unforgettable. I suddenly noticed a figure move. I crouched. I pressed a button. The screen focused. The figure moved by again. I fired, but I missed. The figure jumped away.
"Haha, that was a close one."
I smiled a little. I understood why he found joy from this. It was entertaining, exciting, and immersive. I chased after the figure. He turned around and began shooting and I quickly focused the screen, just long enough to focus and shoot. This time he didn't dodge it and I hit him.
"AHA!" I said raising my arms.
"All right Atlas! High five."
He held out a hand. I did the same. We didn't do anything. And then he slapped my hand. Confused and a bit hurt I dismissed it but kept in mind it was called a 'high five'. We started again.
"That was probably beginners luck." He teased.
"I very much doubt that." I said throwing him a sly smile. He smiled and we returned to the game.

After awhile of playing Dylan tapped me.
"It's been about half an hour you can go back."
"But I don't want to."
"Huh?"
"I want to stay with you." I said smiling.
