Heyyyy. Sorry I haven't been updating, this have been pretty chaotic for me the past few days. And I'm on my phone, so if I make mistakes please bare with me, I can't help I have sausage fingers. I'm also American, ('MURICA) and if I'm inaccurate as to British customs, please tell me.

Okay, so this is Chapter Four.
-------------------------------------------

James POV

She looked around frantically, a tragic mix of a deer caught in the headlights and a person who could hear someone they loved, but couldn't reach them. It both left me bewildered, and frightened. What could've happened to Lily that this would occur?

I hesitantly set a hand on her shoulder. "Lils?" She jumped as my hand made contact with her nightgown, and cringed.

My eyebrows furrowed together in concern. "Lily, what's wrong?" She turned away from me and curled herself up in a tight embrace.

She waited a few minutes before she turned back and responded. "It's nothing, James."

I knew she was lying, again.

"Lily, I-" I started to say, but something in the deep misery on her features stopped me.

"Lily, please don't lie to me." I pleaded.

She bit her lip and looked away from me.

"Why do you care?" She tried to sound harsh, but she sounded broken.

"Because, I,-" I stopped. Now was not the time to tell her I loved her. "I'm your friend, Lil. I care about you. You seem upset."

Lily stared at the empty space, almost like she was in another world.

"James, believe me, I'm okay." She forced a smile onto her face. "But thank you for worrying about me."

I paused, still not convinced. "Alright. Sleep tight, Lily."
"Goodnight, James."

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I woke up the next morning, and Lily was gone. I asked Madam Pomphery where she went, and she said she didn't know, but she checked out earlier.

I had a bad feeling, but I didn't know why. It was a Saturday, so we had no classes, so I went down to breakfast.

I walked to the end of the table and sat by Remus, Marlene, Peter and Sirius, but no Evans.

"Where's Evans?" I asked casually.

"I haven't seen her since I last visited the infirmity wing." Marlene stated.

"She came down for breakfast earlier, but left abruptly after the delivery owls came." Remus added.

I harrumphed. But inside, that feeling was getting worse.

I'll look for her after breakfast, I resolved.

So I did.

I went down to the Quiddtich pitch, where I ran into her other friends, Dorcas and Alice who were practicing for Trials.

I jogged up to them and called out a muffled, "Have you seen Lily, lately?" Luckily, they heard.

"NO." Alice Prewitt screeched. Her short brown hair rippling in the wind. She pointed to the black haired athlete beside her. "We've been here since dawn."

I sighed in disappointment. "Okay, thanks."

I went around looking for a long time, asking students, teachers, anyone. I even asked Peeves. Great good he did.

I searched and searched until the sky was darker than midnight. But then something happened.

I actually paused and started to think.

The Bloody Marauders Map.

Why didn't I think of it?

I dug it out of the pocket of my robe, and whispered the incantation over the weathered parchment.

Scanning thoroughly across the surface of the map, it took a second to find Lily's name, but when I did find it, I was shocked.

I stuffed the map in my pocket once again as I sprinted to the staircase, Lily's footprints in the astronomy tower. I was hoping that she wasn't doing what I thought she was doing.

Merlin, please not Lily.

I finally found the final stair case I had to take to find the tower, and I scaled them, panting so hard I couldn't hear my own steps.

I found myself at the door, and without hesitation, I threw it open.

I looked at the balcony, and panicked. Was I too late?

But I heard sobs from the corner, and I knew she was okay.

I turned around and faced the crumpled heap that was Lily Evans. I choked back a gasp at what I saw.

She lied in a ball on the cold stone floor. Her beautiful, shoulder length auburn hair was tangled, parts of it in snarls and knots. Her usually bright emerald green eyes had darkened with despair. Her uniform was wrinkled, which was unheard of from Lily. In her hand was a letter.

I paled. "Lily-" she jumped, as if just now realizing I was in the room.

"James?" She said, trying in vain to right her appearance.

I bent down on my knees beside her, and looked into her eyes. "Lily, what's happened?"

Lily bit her lip.

And she told me.
