Chapter 22
Kings and Kings
"The meeting has been moved up," Avery told them after they answered the door together. "Are you ready?" His eyes were full of worry and concern which they both saw. He also looked sad when he caught Vasska looking protective over Nevaeh but after he sighed, he pushed his feelings back.
They both nodded to him after taking a look at each other. Nevaeh's heart rate spiked as did her nerves.
"Follow me," Avery gestured with his hand and together they followed him down the long corridor again.
They walked across and outside an open corridor for a while before coming back inside to another one, then to two giant and ancient looking doors. The sheer size of them were intimidating and Nevaeh was in awe by the beautiful carvings in them.
"Ok, I have to go in first and then you will be waved in. Don't sit until told to and don't speak unless spoken to. Be respectful," Avery said and eyed Vasska meaningfully at his last sentence.
Vasska nodded solmenly and Avery disappeared through the doors. With in minutes, two men, who closely resembled soldiers, ushered them in.
Nevaeh quickly noticed a regal looking man sitting at the head of a court style room with a beautiful woman by his side. The man had short white hair and piercing blue eyes. The woman next to him was so serene and held such grace about her. To her right was another beauty but younger. Avery sat at the left side of the regal looking man.
Vasska and Nevaeh were led to two chairs behind a table right in front of the regal group. She took in the scene and fear began to inundate her. She noticed another set of people off to her right and knew there was another set behind her that she caught a glimpse of while walking in.
"Good evening everyone," the regal man in charge began. "Thank you for joining us today in such haste. It seems we have a dilemma concerning this young lady before me," he paused while looking Nevaeh over carefully. "You may be seated," he paused again for a moment. "I am King Andrei Andrus for those whom I have never met before." He gently then gestured his hand to the right of himself. "This is my beautiful wife, Queen Emma Andrus." He then gestured to his left. "My eldest son, Prince Avery Andrus." He then gestured to his right again. "And my eldest daughter Princess Addelay Andrus."
"The top members of the council are here, as well as all concerned parties," he looked past Nevaeh and Vasska. "The council of the Wood Nymph society, the young lady's grandmother,"
Nevaeh instantly tensed and her breath caught in her chest. Vasska, hearing her distress, lent his hand for her to hold and she immediatley snatched it.
The king continued. "Farrin and her personal council Lazario Dalamar," The king waved for a man to deliver him a piece of paper and looked it over before continuing.
The King looked straight at Nevaeh, making her that much more nervous and fidget in her seat.
"Young lady," the King kindly said, "how old are you?"
"Seventeen your Majesty," she answered, barely above a whisper.
The King chuckled heftily. "Well, then it seems this entire debacle was unneccessary. The young lady is old enough to decide for her self where or whom she would like to live with." He paused giving a severe look to the group behind Nevaeh. "Tell me Nevaeh, would you like to return to your school and your family or go with your grandmother?"
"Why can't I stay with Vasska and Avery your Majesty? I do not wish to go home nor do I wish to go with my evil grandmother," she blurted out breathlessly then, blushed from her unrestrained remark.
