A Long Way Gone(A Before You Exit Fanfic)

*Thomas's POV*

It's true. I heard Ali tell Riley that she was moving. No, I didn't mean to. It just kinda happened. We needed our books for English but, me being me brought my Chemistry book instead, so I asked if I could go grab it. Our teacher, Mr. Young, agreed and as I was walking back from my locker, I heard Ali's voice.

"Promise you won't tell anyone?" she asked someone.

"I won't tell." Riley. That's who she was talking to.

She took a deep breath as I peeked around the corner and said, "I'm moving to Canada in July."

What? No. She can't be, but this isn't something she would lie about. I quickly turned around and walked back to class. This was something I had to tell Braiden.

*Courtney's POV*

I still couldn't believe it. Ali was moving? It didn't seem possible. I've known her for ages and I've never seen her like this before. She's always so happy and chipper, but now she was so... not happy and not chipper.

Bong! Bong!

The bell.

I gathered my books and walked out of Geography, heading to my locker to put my stuff away, then towards the cafeteria for lunch.

"Courtney!" I turned just as Riley caught up to me.

"Hey, Riley," I said while trying to sound happy.

"You're not fooling me, Courtney." He blinked at me. "I already know about Ali."

"Oh." I looked down at my shoes.

"You Ok?"

I sighed. "Yeah, I'm fine." We stood in the middle of the hall for a few minutes while people walked around us to get to their destinations. "Wanna head to the cafeteria?"

"Sure," he replied, and we both started walking again.

*Connor's POV*

Finally it's lunch time. I slipped into the already packed cafeteria. The other's were seated at our usual table near one of the back windows. I dodged through the crowd and sat down next to Braiden and across from Ali.

"Hey guys," I exclaimed.

"Hey, bro," Riley said in a distracted tone of voice. I frowned and looked around the table. Everyone seemed distracted.

"Did I miss something?" I asked.

"No, you didn't miss anything," Thomas answered.

"Is everyone Ok then?"

"Yeah, everything is fine," Braiden replied blankly. I looked around the table again and shrugged. Whatever it was, I wasn't going to push it. I'd probably find out what was going on later.

*Courtney's POV*

I was confused. Why were Braiden and Thomas acting like this? Ali hadn't told them yet, had she?I glanced at her. She had the same look on her face as me, meaning she had obviously not told either of them. She definitely had not told Connor yet either. I'll talk to her later about it. If she hadn't told them yet, something else may be going on.

*Riley's POV*

I looked at Thomas and Braiden. I knew Ali hadn't told them, but I didn't know why else they could be acting so strange. They weren't trying to hide anything too, were they? They better not be. This wasn't the time for more secrets.

Connor glanced at me. I kept my expression as blank as possible to keep him off the case. It must have worked because he shrugged it off and looked away.

Then I looked at Ali. She looked even more confused than I was. That proved that she hadn't told Braiden or Thomas she was moving. So why were they acting like this?

*Braiden's POV*

I scanned the table. Riley was frowning at Thomas and I. Connor looked confused. Ali looked like she was off in another world. Courtney was glancing around the table like she didn't know what was going on. Thomas didn't even seem to be paying attention. He was too busy playing with his lunch: dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets. When would this break be over? This had to be a record of the most awkward lunch break ever.
