We stared at each other for a moment before he continued.

"Okay," He sighed, his eyes flickering from my knife to my face. "I know you're probably scared-"

"Probably?" The words slipping from my mouth, coming out in a sarcastic tone. Regardless, though, he ignored it.

"And I know you've seen what was in the basement," He said, his tone dark. "But I want you to know I'm not going to let that happen to you. You're safe with me."

I looked at him and tried to search for reassurance in his eyes. I wasn't sure weather or not to trust him. His voice didn't hint at all that he was lying, but...

Come on Nicole, I told myself, you just saw a dead girl for crying out loud. I shouldn't even think about trusting him. What I should do is take this knife, stab him, get the keys, and run. Of course, if I got caught again, I'm pretty sure I might lose a foot. Plus, that radio was here. Wherever here was. I mean, he hasn't hurt me so far, but still.

I clutched my knife tighter and he noticed.

"Look," He said, "I know you don't have much of a reason to trust me right now. Hell, I wouldn't trust me either if I saw and went through what you did. But, I'm asking you to believe me when I say this: I'm not going to hurt you, Nicole."

"If you're not going to hurt me then let me go home," I said, staring at him with cold eyes.

"I can't," He said, like it was plain and simple.

"Why?" I asked. "I swear, if you let me go, I'll say I ran away. I'll say I never saw this place. You have my word."

"That's not why, Nicole," He said, showing a half hearted smirk. "I can't let you go because I need you."

That caught me off guard. I gave him a bewildered look.

"Alright, let me explain," He said, still looking at the knife in my hands. "As you've seen I live with my family. We're not exactly an...ordinary family, as you can tell."

"You don't say," I muttered under my breath, the words slipping again. He ignored that, too.

"And I can't begin to tell you the reasons and why we do what we do," He started, "But I'm not like them. I may be here with them, but I'm not like the rest of them."

He paused and hesitated before he spoke again.

"That's why I need you," He said. "Your my ticket out of this family business."

There was silence for a few moments. I wasn't sure what he meant.

"How can I possibly help you?" I asked, shaking my head slightly. "I'm just a random girl that you kidnapped."

He sighed again and stood up.

"You have parents that care about you, right?" He asked.

"What?" I asked, caught off guard by the question.

"Do you?"

"Well, yeah."

"That's how you're going to help me," He said, pacing the floor. "You have parents that care. Parent's that will do anything to get you back."

He spoke as if his point was obvious, but I still wasn't understanding it. He must have realized this due to the lost look on my face. He stopped pacing and looked at me.

"You're my salvation, Nicole," he said in that kind tone. "You don't understand it now, but you will."

"Explain it to me," I said. He shook his head.
