I exit Buck's allowing my feet to guide themselves. I hurry back to the lot. I notice Pony and Johnny laying near what looked like what was once a fire. I shake them and whisper, "hey guys, wake up." Ponyboy opens his eyes, and says, "what time is it?" Johnny woke up too. "I don't know, I fell asleep too," he says. My stomach feels uneasy. Ponyboy leaves, leaving behind Johnny and me. Johnny was shivering a bit, so I take off my leather jacket and place it on him gently. "Thanks Violet, but won't you get cold?" "Nah, I don't really get cold." It was true, I didn't. Didn't get hot much either. "Oh, thank you." He shut his eyes again, and I stare up at the stars, trying to ignore this premonition of danger I am getting.

Ponyboy runs back to us, saying "Darry hit me." I take my jacket off Johnny as he gets up. Ponyboy wants to run away. Instead, we all decide to go to the park to cool down as we came to our senses. "Guys, maybe we shouldn't go to the park," I suggest as I stop dead in my tracks. "Something is telling me not to."

"It'll be fine," Pony says. So we go, and that uneasy feeling in my stomach gets bigger and bigger until it feels like someone is churning butter in there. Sure enough, some Socs come by in a blue Mustang , saying about how Pony and Johnny were trying to "get with their women". They have flasks, and are obviously rip-roarin drunk. Then, their eyes land on me. Oh no.

"Oh, and who's this? A greasy girl of their own, huh? Well, you stay away from our women, we stay away from yours, but if you don't, well..." Bob (his name just popped up to me) grabs me, and pulls me  closer. I smell the alcohol on his breath, and cough in his face. He doesn't let go. Instead, he slaps me in the face. "You're trash, greaser girl. Greasy trash!"

(This is a quote, not my own dialogue)

"You know what a greaser is?" He asks. "White trash with long, greasy hair." Bob throws some liquor on Ponyboy, and Johnny flinches.

Ponyboy retorts, "You know what a Soc is?"

"What?"

"White trash with Mustangs and Madras."

Very quickly, I bite Bob's arm, and when his grip loosens, I yank his arm away, then kick him in the nuts. He yelps as Pony spits in his face. Then they all run after us. Bob regains strength and runs after us. A couple Socs gang up on me, but I take them both down by punching one in the gut, then kicking the other ones legs out from under him. They're drunk so it is a lot easier. I see a couple kicking Johnny on the ground. I tackle them hard, then bang their heads against each other. I kick them, yelling "doesn't feel so good, does it?!" Then I lean down, quickly but barely managing, "Johnny, you ok?" He nods and I help him up. Ponyboy is being drowned in the park fountain.

I run over, trying to fight the Socs, kicking some in the back of their calves, but it doesn't work, there's too many. The ones I fought before regained strength and joined Bob in trying to drown Pony. Bob grabs me and hits my head against the fountain. Blood seeps out beneath me. I stand back up, super dizzy, and try to punch him in the face. Randy, I just know it's Randy, grabs me from behind, wrapping me in a headlock. The last thing I see before passing out is the shiny object in Johnny's hand reflecting light from the moon.
