The doors slammed behind Kahmunrah as he disappeared down the steps of the museum. Larry stopped them before they could go any further, however.
"What's going on?" Nicky wondered. "Dad?"
Larry met his son's gaze briefly, and when he did, Serenity sighed. Ahkmenrah began explaining. "We'll keep an eye out," Larry stated. "And the doors will be locked first thing every night. You won't need to worry."
Larry had been right. Serenity never did see Kahmunrah again, though it had only been a few months. There was always the chance he would come back, but for now she was safe. Even though she was still upset about never being able to leave the museum, she was slowly becoming herself again. Serenity began interacting with the others, especially Nicky. Larry and everyone else could clearly see that she had taken a liking to him.
Larry had asked about that one day, and she told him that she was only trying to re-live her childhood through him. Things were getting better. Even if Serenity never got to do the things she wanted to before she died, she had Ahkmenrah. She had also gained a new family, and it was bigger than she could have ever imagined. For the first time in a long time, she finally felt home.
