Braeden’s outer appearance definitely assures me that being social is not a problem for him. Braeden is also clever. He’s had the best scholars teaching him from birth. I however, had either the best scholars through Braeden, or second rate scholars to seem like I’m nothing but a little princess. While Braeden has studied battle tactics, I’ve done etiquette. Whatever battle strategies I know have either come through Col raving about his amazing lesson with so and so, or reading in our library. While Braeden’s studied the art of deception, I’ve mastered the art of perception. Is it fair? Not really but as I’ve always been told, it’s for my safety.

It’s also only a matter of time until I know everything I need to know about Fire Elementals and the way they think. I have to get closer to Braeden. I have to be nicer to him. I know that but every fiber in my body is telling me to hurt him. He makes my blood boil. It’s for the good of my people, I know but I don’t like it one bit.

“So what’s another hotspot for you outside of the palace?” Braeden asks as we reach the end of the tunnel.

I push against the exit and reply, “I don’t get out of the palace often without permission.” Even Braeden’s voice can send shivers down my spine.

I crawl out of the tunnel and wait till Braeden gets before covering the entrance. “Well that doesn’t sound like fun,” he mumbles.

I scowl at him before demanding, “Does everything have to be fun with you? Maybe if you got some work done, we wouldn’t be in this mess.”

I try to walk past Braeden but he grabs my arm. “Stop storming off,” he demands. I look back at him and notice that my arm is heating up. I jerk my arm out of his grasp and scrunch up my nose the way I usually do when I’m upset.

  “Don’t touch me,” I snarl.

Braeden narrows his eyes at me before saying, “I bet you say that to all the guys you meet. That’s not a nice way to make your guest feel welcome.” He has no right to talk to me this way!

“Jump off a cliff,” I reply.

“When you decide to defrost, Ice Princess.”

  “Was that an insult?”

“Definitely not a compliment.” Sick of this discussion, I storm away from Braeden. I will not be spoken to this way.

I hear Braeden calling after me but I ignore him. If he get’s lost out here, it’s his problem. I jog toward the street and try to calm down. All of this anger isn’t good for me. I don’t focus well when angry. Braeden should just shut up and do as he’s told a few times. Sure that would be a little boring but I could use a good helping of boring in my life right now. I hate how complicated he’s making me. I can barely think when I’m around him.

  “Watch out!” Someone exclaims.

Braeden’s POV

“Move out of my way!” I exclaim as I weave through the thick crowds. Where in the hell did Melrose run off to? I swear she just gets mad at me over the simplest of things. All I was trying to do was get to know her better. Well as much as I can know Melrose while trying to use her. That’s not really important now though. I need to find her.
