You, Chris, Gordie, Teddy, and Vern had been traveling the train tracks, to eventually find the dead body of Ray Brower. You all now came upon the tracks over the river, deciding if you all should cross and take another route.
"While you guys are driving your candy asses all the way down from state and back, I'll be on the other side, relaxing with my thoughts." Teddy said cooly.
"Do you use your right hand or left hand for that?" Gordie retorted back.
"You wish."
Teddy started walking, with Chris following, so you guess we are taking the tracks. You follow behind Chris, with Vern and Gordie behind me.
We walked in silence, the cool breeze blowing against all of our faces. The feeling relaxed you. but you still had this gut feeling that something bad was going to happen.
You take occasional glances back at Gordie, checking to make sure he's keeping up and doing okay. You had grown to care of all the boys very much, but more like brothers. That is, except for Gordie. You'd always felt something more for him, but you kept it hidden deep within you, not wanting to risk anyone finding out. You feared everyone would laugh, and Gordie would reject you, laughing as well. Things would never be the same if that were to happen, and you would lose your only friends. That's how you felt, at least.
Everything was calm, until you glanced back at Gordie again, a look of terror on his face as he yelled, "Train!"
Everyone looked back at him now, seeing the train as well. Everyone was running and yelling, it was a fiasco. You were scared to death.
Teddy and Chris finally made it to the end of the tracks and yelled for you to hurry. You joined them, using Chris as support as you almost fell from running so fast. They screamed for Gordie and Vern to hurry their asses up, you yelled just as well. Looks of complete fear were on everyone's face, especially Vern and Gordie. The train quickly became closer and closer to them. You were sure that they were goners.
Your heart pumped and you could hear it beating quickly in my chest. You could feel your head starting to hurt and adrenaline pumping through your veins. One of your best friends and the boy you loved were about to die. You couldn't bear it, he would never know how you felt.
You decided to do something rash, something you would never normally do. But these weren't normal circumstances. "Gordie, I love you!"
Chris and Teddy looked at you in confusion. "What did you say?" Teddy asked.
You blushed and looked away. "Nothing! They are about to die!"
You all looked back to see Gordie and Vern jump off the tracks to the side. If they hadn't jumped that second, the train would have ran them over.
It whizzed past the three of you, and as soon as it passed, you all rushed to the side of the tracks to see the fates of the boys.
A rush of relief swept over you as you saw Gordie and Vern recovering from falling on the ground below the tracks, coughing and brushing themselves off.
"At least we know when the train was due." Chris joked.
After you were all walking again and everyone collected themselves, Gordie came beside you.
"Hey, (y/n)"
"Hey."
"Umm, you said something before we jumped. What was it exactly?"
Your face blushed and you know he must have seen that. "Umm, nothing. I was just yelling for you guys to hurry."
"I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure that's not what you said."
You frowned at him. "Fine, then you tell me what I said."
"It, it sounded like you said that you love me? I might have misheard," his voice trails off at the end.
You sighed. "No. You heard correctly."
He just looked at you in shock. "Really?"
You looked at him now. "Yeah."
You walked in silence for a little while, too afraid to say something embarrassing.
"But I'm almost positive you don't feel the same way. I just didn't think it would matter, since you were about to be killed."
"Are you saying you'd rather me have died so you didn't have to face this?"
Your eyes grew wide and you waved your hands in a dismissive way. "No! No, definitely not! You don't know how glad I am that you're alive."
He smiled now and looked down at the ground.
He sighed. "You're wrong."
You looked back at him in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"You're wrong. About me not liking you back. You're wrong."
You realized now what that meant and a smile spread across your face. "You like me too?"
He nodded and grinned.
"Hey! What are you all talking about back there? Hurry up!" You both looked up and realized that Chris, Teddy, and Vern had now surpassed you both, walking ahead.
"We should probably catch up." You say to him.
"Nah." He smiled, and you did too.
A rush of confidence came over you, something you had never felt in moments like these. He leaned in and kissed Gordie on the cheek. He looked at you in a bit of shock, but blushed and smiled yet again. Man, his smile is so cute and he's been doing it almost this whole conversation, so you took that in.
"Plenty more of that to come, Lachance."
"In that case..." He leaned in and before you knew it, cupped your face and lightly kissed your lips. "I love you too, (y/n). Always have. I was just afraid it would ruin everything."
"Yeah, me too. We both got over our fear, I guess."
"And all because I almost got hit and killed by a train."
You both chuckled. "I guess we should catch up with them, it's almost night time."
You nodded in agreement.
He took your hand and you two caught up with the group, getting questionably looks from the other boys.
"Oh, so Lachance finally nutted up and told (y/n)."
"Uh uh, you're wrong, Teddy. (Y/n) said it first, when she yelled it when they were getting chased by the train. I heard it but I didn't want to embarrass you."
"Thanks Chris."
"Wait, what's going on?" Vern said. "Gordie and (y/n) are dating?"
They all looked at you both in anticipation.
You nodded and smirked. "Yeah, yeah we are."
Gordie nodded in agreement.
Who knew your crush almost getting run down by a train caused you two to start dating.
