XCOM: Resist

"On approach to Drop Zone. Get ready." The back of the Skyranger opens up and the team slide down ropes and ready their weapons. The orange glow of fire and screams were accompanied by gunfire.

"Firebrand, circle around," Bradford ordered and the Skyranger flew over their head. "Our priority are the civilians," they nod and advance through the burning settlement. So far, they were met with very little resistance.

Kendrick kicks open a door where several people were cowering. "Move it or loose it people," he yells and they start running out. All of them but one. "Hey, you wanna die here? Move." Nothing Kendrick said worked so he grabbed them by the shoulder, "you deaf or..." as they spun towards him, they gave a growl and started to morph.

"I see ADVENT," Nexus reports as he adjusted his scope, "get ready..." he was interrupted by the sound of a wall breaking and Kendrick being the one that broke it. "Exalt is hurt!"

Chailux looks over to where he landed and ran over to check on him. "What happened," he asked and Kendrick struggled to point to the hole in the wall. A large creature of hulking flesh ran out and pointed to them.

"Get out of there," Bradford yells as he spins up his cannon. Chailux pulled Kendrick over his shoulder and ran. "What are you waiting for Nexus," Bradford radios over the sound of his cannon, "take the shot."

"Not yet," Nexus mutters then took a deep breath. Bradford kept yelling to take the shot but Nexus kept on tracking the thing. "Just a little more." At this point, the creature was almost in reaching distance of Chailux.

"Nexus," Bradford yells out as his cannon goes dry and he frantically tries to reload. Nexus fires and the creature falls just short of them. "Cutting it a little close there," Bradford commented but didn't get a response as ADVENT troops started to fire on him.

Chailux sets Kendrick up against a tree then runs to assist Bradford. "Head down," Chailux yells and Bradford ducks as he fires over him, "putting down some smoke!"

"Just like old times," Bradford yells as he reloads again and fires through the smoke. The enemy fire stopped and they waited for the smoke to clear. "Nexus, do you have visual on remaining hostiles?"

"Negative Central," Nexus radioed and the smoke finally clears revealing the body count of fallen ADVENT, "I'm not seeing any more contacts in the AO."

"Just because you don't see them," Chailux reloaded his rifle then looked to Bradford, "doesn't mean they're not around. Keep an eye out." They slowly surveyed the nearby structures and area.

"On it," Nexus responded and followed them with his scope until they turned a corner. A gun clicked behind him and he felt the barrel of a pistol on his back, "dis moi que c'est une blague."

A gunshot echoes through the air and both Bradford and Chailux run back to his perch to see a figure kick him down to the ground. "Nexus," Chailux yells and runs over to him, "Bradford." Bradford gives a nod and radioed the Skyranger. "Don't worry, just hang in there."

Nexus weakly shakes his head and pulls the helmet off of his head. "It's been an honour Commander," he weakly coughs and time seemed to slow down. Exalt slowly made his way over and bowed his head. Bradford waved the Skyranger down and Chailux carried Nexus back.
