Lonely Valentine

It's been a month since you last saw your boyfriend, Mark. He's been very busy with promotions and concerts, not to mention, interviews and photoshoots.

You miss him. He's been cancelling out on your dates and today is no exception.

You wake up in the morning, pretty much excited for a date Mark promised you for tonight. It's Valentine's Day and he said he's taking you out. Just as you are getting ready for work, singing your way out of the shower, your phone rings.

"Mark?"

"Baby, Good Morning!" His husky voice comes up and you know he just woke up.

"Good morning, Babe. See you tonight?" He can probably hear the frenzy in your voice that you fail to hide.

"Uhm...Baby...About that..." Oh no...not again.

"Don't tell me you can't make it again?" You don't need to hide your frustration.

"________ I'm really sorry. The company just booked us another event. I can't do anything but to follow. I promise I'll make it up to you."

"But, it's Valentine's Day."

"I know, baby. And I'm really sorry. I swear if I could just go to you right now, I will. But..."

"Whatever, Mark." You hang up before he can continue.

Your day is already ruined. It's supposed to be your first Valentine's Day together, but it's now down in the drain...together with your mood.

You take off the special dress you're wearing just for this day and take out a pair of jeans and black shirt. "Valentine's Day my ass," you yell at your empty room.

To make it worse, you get stuck in traffic and you're thirty minutes late for work. You prepare your ears for what your grumpy boss is gonna say.

"I hope he doesn't fire me," that's all you think about as you enter his office.

"Ms. ________. Late?"

"I'm sorry. Traffic was bad, Mr. Lee." You can't look him straight in the eye. You know how he looks like when he's angry...scary....with his big round eyes that pierce straight to yours, his perfect white teeth clenched, and ears as red as tomatoes.

"I need you to run an errand for me," he says in his deep, commanding voice. "Here's the address. There's a document there I need you to get. It's at the topmost floor of that building."

"Yes, sir." You take the paper he hands you. "I'm sorry a..."

"Now," you jump at his loud voice.

"I swear to God I'm gonna get a heart attack one day with that man always shouting like that," you tell yourself as you exit the building.

It takes you a whole hour to get to the address.

As you enter, you see the receptionist smile at you. "Hi, I'm here to get some documents for Mr. Lee." You tell her politely.

"Oh." She looks at you from head to foot, frowns, and says, "The top floor."

She's still eyeing you strangely as you say 'thanks'.

Before you could reach the only elevator in the building, you hear her shout, "Miss, sorry but you have to take the stairs. The elevator's not working today. The technician's still on it."

Then you see the sign 'Out of Order' pasted on the elevator door.

Fuck! How many floors does this building have? What else can go wrong?

As you enter the door to the stairs you see a sign on the wall. It has your name on it and a rose stuck behind it.

You take the rose and look for some note, nothing. You're eyebrows meet, thinking, "Is my boss hitting on me?" But, dismiss the thought. He's young and handsome...but happily married.

The second flight of stairs has the same paper with your name, this time, a tulip is stuck to it. You take the tulip again.

"Something seems weird." But, curiosity overpowers you. You continue up the steps.

Six more flowers, each one different from the other, and you reach the top floor. "Thank God," you're already panting. Talk about morning exercise.

At least your boss was thoughtful enough to give you flowers, even after he let you walk up six flights of stairs. You smile at the thought, "He's not so bad after all, " you think.

The top floor only has one huge double-door on it. You push open the doors and music comes up. (Listen to the attachment above.)

"It's Mark's song," you get nervous. There are bouquets of flowers everywhere, petals of roses line the floor from the door to a small stage across the room.

"Am I at the right room?" You back out from the door and check if there are other doors, but there aren't. You go back to the staircase to see if there's an upper floor, bu there isn't.

You go back in the room again, the music is still playing. You can't see anybody around. "Maybe there's a secret room here," you follow the path of petals. Then you see, a small door at the right opening ever so slowly.

Somebody comes out, his face covered with a huge bouquet of flowers shaped like a heart - it's a guy. The bouquet is big enough to cover his entire face including his hair.

"Mark?" You would recognize his hand anywhere.

He slowly puts down the flowers, his beaming face appears. "Happy Valentine's Day, Baby."

You become speechless, tears are starting to form in your eyes. He closes the distance between you and hands you the flowers.

You hit his chest before he pulls you in a tight hug. "You don't think I'd miss out on our first Valentine's Day together, do you?"

You just grunt. "I hate you." You tell him, but of course, you meant the opposite.

"I love you, too, ________."
