Work (Chapter 6)

Y/N had walked to her grey cubicle that morning, sat down and started typing. She had to learn how to type at the HYDRA base only a week before. She had to learn how to keep her temper in check, her strength unnoticeable, and her identity a secret. Y/N finished all of the paperwork for the day perfectly; having her mind caught up on other things helped her not notice how fast she finished the reports. Y/N had time, and time was valuable.

Cleaning up her desk quickly, Y/N stood up slowly, not wanting to call a lot of attention to herself. She strided out of her cubicle, and into a grey hallway. She turned a corner into another, guess what, grey hallway. Everything was either grey or blue. They grey helped Y/N adjust to the new surroundings, as she had grown up in a grey concrete building. But the one thing that unnerved her was how many windows there were. So many windows meant more places to escape from, but also meant people could see her through glass walls. They might suspect something. Anything. The way she walked, the way her face contorted as she thought, the way she talked, the way that she was. Some HYDRA agents might call her jumpy or insecure with her cover, but she called it careful.

Y/N turned to hallway 5E, or Avengers Hallway. Agents of her status came through Avengers Hallway regularly, mostly because this hallway was linked to the training facilities and the locker rooms. That was where Y/N was headed. She pushed open the door to the women's locker room and changed into a black tank top and black exercise pants, the stretchy fabric reaching to her calf. She tied her hair into a ponytail (Or you left it, it matters on the length of your hair.). Y/N had decided that doing anything like boxing, weight lifting, or parkour would blow her cover as an experiment, so she decided to run.

Hype stretched her lower back, arms, and legs, sometimes leaning against the wall to recover her balance, even if the whole "losing her balance thing" was fake; Y/N had to seem like a normal agent, even if she barely knew what "normal" was.

Y/N started out lightly jogging a few laps, her feet landing lightly and soundlessly onto the track. Mentally transporting herself to before the first HYDRA base was wrecked, Y/N's jog turning into a run. She ran three laps before she started sprinting; the sweat now beading on her forehead and her skin blooming into a bright red color. Remembrances of the pain, the training, the new base, competition, and being what she was flashed through her mind, and with each one she ran a little faster, her feet no longer light and quiet, turning loud, beating against the plastic track. Y/N finally started slowing down, thoroughly out of breath. She stopped and wiped the hair that had fell into her face away from her eyes.

"Nice sprint." a voice followed a man. He had blonde hair and a white tank top on with shorts. Captain America. The man perfectly matched the pictures that Hype had studied at HYDRA.

"Thank you sir." Y/N saluted, just as her new boss told her to do. If one of the Avengers communicated with you directly, call them sir/ma'am and salute.

"There's no need for that." Cap said, walking closer to Y/N. She relaxed, but the Captain could see the tenseness in the way that she held herself. Her knees were slightly bent, meaning that she was ready to bolt, her face calm, showing that she was hiding her fear. Her fear. What was she afraid of? "What is your name agent?" he asked.

"Agent Shinu sir."

"I told you, there's no need for that."

"Sorry si-" Y/N cut herself off. Cap looked semi pleased.

"The reason I came over here was to ask if you wanted to spar." Hype's muscles clenched. That would mean her cover would be blown. SHIELD didn't technically know that she existed, but they knew a HYDRA agent when they fought one. Usually trained in martial arts or some kind of fighting style. Blank face. Kills without reason. But for all they knew right now, she was a SHIELD agent. Inexperienced in the field. Knows how to shoot a gun. Simple stuff.

"I'm sorry, but I can't." Cap looked taken aback. Almost no one turned down Captain America when he asked you to spar.

"Why not?"

"I have to get to my quarters." when the look of dissatisfaction crossed his face, Hype added a lie to the truth. "I need to finish more paperwork. I just came for a quick run." Y/N hurried off into the women's locker room, took a quick shower, changed back into her suit and skirt, then walked out of the changing area into the hallways with a look of satisfaction on her face. Y/N had met one on her hit list. It wasn't much, but hey, it was a start.
