To say Bucky was nervous was the understatement of the century. He was trembling in anxiety.
"Relax Buck." Said Steve, placing a hand on Bucky's shoulder, "this will be a breeze."
"Easy for you to say." Bucky muttered, glancing down at the gun in his hand.
Nick finally decided that he was ready to work, and, like he feared, Bucky was thrusted into the world of death and deception once again. This was his very first mission and he didn't want to screw it up. However, he was afraid all traces of H.Y.D.R.A. hadn't been wiped out from his mind yet, and he was afraid that he'd hurt his teammates.
"You'll be fine man." Said Sam, "you got Ana's stamp of approval, can't get any higher than that." He elbowed Bucky playfully, making the former H.Y.D.R.A. assassin grumble.
"So who's our target?" Asked Tony, yawning.
"Chase Underwood." Steve answered, throwing the woman's profile in front of Tony.
Tony whistled, eyeing the picture of the woman with interest. "Ain't she a beauty?"
"She's our target." Natasha reminded.
Bucky glanced at his target's profile, feeling somewhat conflicted. His target looked too young to be guilty. He killed many innocent people in his days, some just children but he didn't know what he was doing. Now though, he had control and he was starting to question S.H.I.E.L.D.'s intentions for the woman.
"Who do you think she is?" Asked Clint, voicing the question right out of Bucky's mind.
"Beats me." Tony shrugged, caring less about who their target was.
"Fury said she has a connection to H.Y.D.R.A." Said Steve, frowning, "but she's only 23. How can she get so deeply involved in all this that even Fury wants her captured?"
"Looks can be deceiving, and age doesn't matter in our world." Natasha stated grimly. Bucky swallowed, remembering what Anastasia told him about Natasha's past.
"Nat's right, we can't go soft just because she's a woman... And she's a bit younger than our usual targets." Clint agreed.
Bucky nodded numbly, still doubting this. However, the mention of her connection with the horrible organisation that brainwashed him reassured him that he was doing the right thing.
They landed in Washington D.C., a few kilometres away from the target's house. They were given information that she lived in a relatively large house - almost a mansion - alone. Bucky was cautious of any bodyguards that may be protecting her, but as they neared the compound it was clear there were no soldiers with guns protecting the area. However, Bucky did notice that there were security cameras everywhere.
"So much for the element of surprise." Sam hissed, trying not to make his detection of the cameras too obvious. The team scaled over the walls with ease and landed silently on the grass.
Bucky hadn't even taken two steps when he heard barks from the distance. He swallowed when he saw a pack of angry German Shepards glaring at them.
"Guard dogs, should've known." Clint muttered, getting his bow ready, "I'll take care of 'em. You guys go ahead."
"Try and tame them first." Tony suggested, flying towards the estate.
