Chapter Twenty

KAI

"Those bastards!" I growled, knocking over a chair.

The other Alphas watched me with angry expressions on each of their faces. They knew. It was the only conclusion.

"They must have tortured it out of Asher. Otherwise, there is no way they could have found out about The Chase," Brynn declared.

"Do you know what this means? Do you realize the immense problem we face? They know our weakness! Any alpha that catches the gaze of these vulnerable humans won't be able to fight the urge. They'll annihilate us!"

"My brother isn't that weak," Cymon bit back coolly. He had taken the news of his brother's abduction badly and it was the first meeting since he found out that he actually showed up to. There was a coldness in him that wasn't there before. While I knew he was no match for me, it would be foolish not to keep an eye on him.

He already tried to kill Asa.

Just thinking about the situation gave me a headache.

"The humans can make anyone break," Stonem said lowly. A haunted look crossed over his features giving way to the years of torture that he not only endured but witnessed firsthand.

Cymon snarled.

"Control your temper," I warned the Alpha, though hypocritical.

All expression wiped off of Cymon's face, something his brother was the master of. It was really unnerving how well the two became unreadable.

"Whatever the case is, they know. They have the upper hand," Talon said gravely.

"They've had the upper hand this entire time. We don't stand a chance against them, we never have! They come whenever they like and completely destroy us!" Nick bellowed angrily.

"That's not entirely true. We have what they want, strength, agility, and power. Don't forget that the reason this is even a war and not an invasion is because they aren't strong enough to take us on. Humans are weak," I reminded them.

"But they have our weakness now! We'd be fools to assume they're not going to exploit it. Hell, they already have and you were the victim!"

I shook my head stiffly.

"While that may be, we still have one more thing above the humans. Well, one more person, I should say."

A look of confusion passed over everyone's features.

"Who?" Nick asked.

"Christos."

"Speaking of, where is he?" Jackson asked. "Shouldn't he be here?"

"I haven't seen him at all since we got here," Talon said.

I looked at the Alpha in confusion. "Wasn't he moved with others in the medical facility? He and Asa?"

Talon shook his head. "He was discharged a little before we got the news according to the head Nurse. They were headed back to their hideout."

"Has anyone seen them since we got here?" I asked around, a feeling of dread building in my stomach.

Everyone shook their heads.

"Shit! Don't tell me they're still up there with the bombers?"

A wave of comprehension spread throughout the room and a sense of panic started to fill in. Drew will be devastated if his best friend dies in this madness. Then he'll probably murder me for not making sure that all of our sector was safely evacuated.

Shit!

Breaking the cold silence was an incessant knocking on the conference room doors. Jackson went to open it up only to catch a stumbling Sherry. He was frantic, eyes searching for his mate. Talon jumped up immediately and grabbed his mate.

"Sherry, what's wrong?" The large Alpha demanded.

"It's Christos! He just called me, said he and Asa got mixed up in the crossfire with humans! Asa got hurt from one of the bombs and went into premature labor! He can't shift, Talon! What do we do? What do we do!" Sherry cried hysterically, falling into his mate's arms.

In the years that I've known Sherry, when it came to medical problems, I have never seen him lose his composure. On a normal basis, he's quiet and shy, but put a stethoscope around his neck and you get a total different person. He was always so composed and sure of himself. He handled every situation, no matter how dire, perfectly.

So that means that something is really wrong this time.

"We can't go out there, it's suicide!" Nick protested.

"We can't leave him," I snapped. "Christos and Asa are a part of this Community now. To abandon our Community is treason." I turned away from them and back to Sherry.

"Sherry, can you tell me why Asa can't shift?"

"His pelvic bone is shattered and left leg is broken from what I gathered from Christos' description. Too much damage to the physical body creates physical and mental trauma. That blockage prevents the Wolf from being able to shift. If Asa doesn't shift, he's going to lose the pups unless we perform an emergency c-section."

"Cymon, alert the Elders. Tell them we need to dispatch a team to help them."

The young Alpha glowered. "I'm not helping that Inproba," he sneered.

"You will do as I say!" I roared, causing everyone in the room to tense.

Cymon stiffened before, getting up and leaving. I stared after his retreating form before turning to Jackson.

"Jackson, follow him."

Jackson nodded and disappeared as well.

I looked to the others. "The rest of you, prepare to move out."

We have a War to fight.

THE END

SIKE! This story isn't over yet, not even close! To find out what happens in the war, to asa and christos, to kai and his rages, to all of the adorable little pups and Wolf couples, head on over to Losing Him where the story continues.

I REPEAT, GO READ LOSING HIM NEXT!

I know the ending seems abrupt. No it was not rushed and yes it was intentional. This story ended up being longer than I intended. But it's not over, I'm simply setting the scene for the next book in the series; Losing Him.

It's been an amazing journey writing this story and I have fallen in love with these characters. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for him. Thank you all for being a part of my second werewolf book and giving me another chance after The Little Wolf's Heat. Keep reading!

Love you all!

See you soon!
