Female Robbery // Zach Abels

i woke up to the sound of a phone ringing. i rolled over and picked it up, it was jerry. 

"hey kiddo, glad you got the work done. i transferred money into your bank for you to get food and drinks while you're there, i'll send your salary when you get back." he said.

"okay, thanks jer. i'll see you soon. call me soon. bye boss" i said and hung up the phone. 

i showered, dressed and picked up my bag and sunglasses. today was a tourist day. in my 21 years of living, i have never visited la as a tourist, only someone visiting relatives and not seeing the sights. 

as i was walking the streets, i saw a group of teenage girls crying. "jesse's dead!!" i heard sobbing as i walked around the city. i saw it on magazine covers. it was everywhere.

i smiled lightly, remembering last night. then i remembered zach and sighed. pretty pretty zach, with his gorgeous dimples and his nimble hands and his soothing voice and the way his face flushed when i kissed his cheek. 

i walked into the nearest starbucks and ordered a latte to go. that was until i heard zachs unmistakable voice ordering two, and to stay in. i smiled at the man behind the counter and went to offer my cash, but zach had already swiped his card before i could even get the money out. i sighed and glared playfully at him. he swung his arm around me as we waited for our coffee.

we were given our drinks and we found a secluded table in the corner. 

"are you okay?" he said once we sat down, looking at me like i witnessed a trauma, which i suppose i did in his eyes. to me it was an almost daily occurrence. 

"yeah, i suppose. could be better. are you though? you just lost one of your best friends" i said, in fake shock.

"hey i just realised, i dont even know your name." he looked, laughing slightly.

"sorry. im catherine, but cathy or cath's fine." i responded, cringing at my name.

"cath. i like it." he said, nodding approvingly. "well cath, did you know most coffee don't end with coffee?"

"oh yeah?" i whispered, smirking.

"yeah. let me show you" he flirted. 

where the hell did this come from? why is he flirting? why am i letting him? what am i going to do? jerry's gonna kill me.

i grabbed zachs hand and led him out of starbucks, down in the direction of my motel. we got inside and i opened the cabinet, revealing a bottle of whiskey. he grinned, searching for glasses. when he found them, i poured two glasses.

"y'know zach" i spoke quietly. "coffee dates usually end up with drunken adults spilling their lives and having sex. but i'd rather just get drunk with you and sleep. not have sex, just sleep. im tired as hell" 

i downed my drink and flopped onto the dirty motel bed, zach closely following. to say it was 11am, we were both screwed. he put his arm around my waist and pulled me closer. 

i met this boy last night and i've already let him in. i broke the business rules. i gave away my name, my motel room number, and i plan to give him my phone number. am i falling for him? i can't be. the whole reason i started in this business was down to heartbreak.

i woke up from my nap to see zach sat at the small table on his phone. he smiled at me and offered me his hand to pull me up. i sat up and rubbed my eyes. 

"what time is it?" i asked, in a daze.

"4pm. we slept the day away. the boys have been texting me and calling me since 1. look i have to go, ill see you around?" he questioned.

"wait, zach, let me give you my number" i said quickly, jumping out of bed. he passed me his phone and i typed my number and added my name as simply "cath".

zach smiled and kissed my cheek, which i did the same to him. 

"i'll text you, cathy" 

famous last words, huh

i got excited about this story so im just gonna keep writing and then one day im gonna forget abt it and finish it in like 50 years so if that happens im sorry af lmao
