Get Your Spy On Chapter 11

Start from the beginning

When we get home, they show me to one of the guest rooms I’ve already made my room. They instruct me to shower, and my grandmother gives me clothes to wear. When I get out of the shower, I examine my wrists. Deep red marks show where the chains hung to me closely. They’ll go away soon, but I’ll always remember the mark on my wrists.

I look at myself in the mirror, my eyes bloodshot, my hair wet and tangled, and not to mention I look like I’ve been through a war zone. Which I have. I change into my grandma’s clothes, and I find a brush in one of the drawers underneath the sink. I brush my black hair until it looks less like a bird nest and more like someone who just rolled out of bed.

My hands are still shaking, but once I stare at them long enough, they stop. I pull the toilet seat down so I can sit on it. I close my eyes until I’ve calmed down. If I want to be able to outrun and outsmart the spies and secret agents, I have to become fearless and untouchable. I can’t be shaken up by this, and the only way by doing that, is by training myself the best I can.

My body is trembling, but after a moment or two, I feel my body stop. I open my eyes, and soon the red marks on my wrist are simply battle wounds, not wounds of defeat. I leave the bathroom, and soon I’m eating a great breakfast, and then settled into my bed.

Grandma and grandpa both kiss me goodnight, and soon I’m left in the darkness, but instead of being chained in a cell, I’m in a warm cozy bed with the sound of music wafting through the air and the soft sounds of my grandparents talking.

This is the most peaceful moment of my life. My eyes start drifting asleep, and soon I fall into a dreamless sleep.

The sun breaks through the windows, waking me up. I yawn loudly, and stretch. Oh the joy to wake up to light.

Light.

I haven’t seen light in days. Only light bulb lights and occasionally I’ll see light through one of the entrance doors. I walk over to the window, and open it, a soft breeze hitting me. My hair lifts in the breeze for a second, making me sigh happily. I shut the window, and go into my private bathroom. I brush my teeth, and then I head into the kitchen and see my grandmother sitting by the pool, her feet dangling in the pool. I join her by the pool, my feet hitting the cool surface of the water. “Good morning.”

“Good morning, dear,” she says, her voice uneasy.

“What’s the matter?” I ask, looking at her worriedly.

“I’m waiting for you to yell at me for putting your friend in harm. I wasn’t thinking straight, I just wanted you to be safe. Your grandfather told me there was a slim chance of her living, so I made myself believe it was better for her to be sacrificed than both of you.”

I wince. What they did to Sloane was undeniably wrong, especially when she just started trusting me again. She probably thinks I told them to tell the secret agents that she’s me. I look at my grandmother. “I’m not going to yell at you. I understand why you did it, but still, you gave an innocent person a death sentence. If it weren’t for you doing this though, I think I’d be dead.”

We both stare ahead, lost in our own thoughts. Every moment that passes, leaves another thought settled. My grandmother must hear something, because she looks at me, suddenly frightened. She grabs me by the arm, and throws me in the direction toward the house.

I run inside, and for a moment I stand in the kitchen, but I know I must hide somewhere in the house. I hide in my room, and soon I hear my grandmother calling for my grandfather.

I hear his footsteps running outside, and soon I’m hiding underneath my bed, my breathing stopping. I hear bickering, and then soon, I hear the door open in my room. I stop breathing, and soon, I see a group of feet enter the room.
