Hidden Grove Motel came into my view. With its desolate position and almost abandoned look it induced a feeling of home. I parked the bike within the almost empty car park and walked towards the largest of all the wooden buildings. I took one of the cabins after paying and receiving my keys.
Rounding to cabin 14, I settled in. Dropping face first on to the bed. The room smelled musty and was smaller on the inside than it had seemed from the woodland walk to its door. I embraced the silence; stopping my breathing and just stared at the ceiling. Within the quiet spot I could problem solve, find better ways to manage purgatory. I could feel the restlessness within my bones, souls wanting to stray from their wandering. Their establishment of control was the worrying factor. Never before had wondering souls maintained their free will. They could tear the gate into The Heavenly Realm and even break through into the human realm should they turn their minds to it. Sighing I reopened my mind link. All I was met by were yells, Sam's screams were echoing through my skull. I desperately tried to close the link, I was met by a hissing breath before a cruel voice sounded.
"You wanted me like this, don't shut me out. You wanted me to fall, you listen to me suffer." I tried to shut him out still. "What fowl excuse for a Reaper cannot deal with screams? Only you and you get away with being the Grim Reaper due to your family line, it's repulsive." He seethed. My blood boiled, anger flowing through me to the point I evaporated to him.
He stood screaming in front of my throne, his back was to me his wings open dwarfing the space with their shadow presence. I succeed to shut the link. I watched his frustration, he kicked the throne. Causing me to leave the cover of a half wall.
"You wanted me to hear, I thought I'd rather witness. You've provoked me Sam. It's necessary to learn you never provoke the Grim Reaper." Sam slowly turned to me, a deranged fire burning within his eyes. Dirty blonde hair ruffled through continual hands run through it. I made no effort to threaten him instead made a motion to move. I didn't get far. Sam leapt at me pressing me onto the floor. I was flipped over, Sam's face filled my vision he spoke through gritted teeth."You have no power over me." He yelled. I bit my lip wrapping a slender hand around his throat before placing my forehead against his. Allowing a familiar fog to wrap around us.
A barren city-scape was panned out, under a grey sky. Sam lay sprawled out on the concrete. I kicked him awake. Spluttering he stood, his eyes widening at the location. I waited until I heard the whistling echo on the wind, masking the footsteps only I knew were coming. The wait for their arrival was tortuous. I could here the sound of rattled breath coming closer, the stench of decay.
Sam's POV:
I looked around, hundreds of the soulless plagued the buildings surrounding us. Death moved away from me and sat on a crumbled support wall. She raised a hand to the sky, the the corrupted creatures all turned to watch her. The hand plummeted. All heads snapped back to me, all at once they pounced I batted some away with my wings. Lashing out I removed as many of them as possible. There were too many. Yells rose from my hoarse throat as splitting pain ran through me. I tried to move my wings, elevate myself away from tearing teeth and savage hands. But I was weighed down by the amount of bodies. Deaths sadistic chuckles echoed throughout the city before she spoke. "You see, Sam, I have a dead army and due to my family line I'm one of the most powerful beings in existence. Do not provoke me. Do you want them to stop? Or would you rather prove me wrong." She clicked her tongue challengingly. I wanted to let myself yell out but my pride wouldn't allow it. "Perhaps I'll let them finish you. Those without souls can wipe fallen from existence. Do you still not wish to speak out?" The pain intensified as nails ripped into cheek. The world started to blur. I kept thrashing about trying to throw some more soulless off. My chest had been torn into before I yelled out for the madness to stop. She laughed before calling them away "pity they hadn't even torn off your jaw yet."I tried to move but the intensity of injury was realized by my body, shooting pains ran through my entire system. My beating was ragged and my vision was lost to darkness.
