I sink against the railing, realizing that he was actually here, in my house. He wants me back. I haven't seen him in so long. It can't be real, no, it, he....My eyes jump and widen. He might come back.
I cry into my hands, "Why do I let him do that my me?" He could always put me under his spell so easily.
I raise my head up and remember the roses. I can't tell Raoul, not now. He wouldn't understand. I close the balcony doors and start cleaning up the roses, throwing the petals outside and in the waste bin. I hide the rose with the black ribbon underneath my bed, hoping Raoul won't see it. That is the only one I want to keep.
After I'm done, I lie down on my bed and relax until I hear Raoul get home.
"Hi." Raoul kisses, my head. "So, where to tonight, my love?"
I watch him and pull him to me, "No where. Just stay here with me. Tell me about your day."
Raoul smiles, "Well, to honest it wasn't that interesting. Micheal and I made some finalized deals on businesses."
"That's wonderful, Raoul!" I say, resting my forehead in the palms of my hands.
"Christine," Raoul says, "What's the matter?"
"Ah, nothing, Raoul." I say, reaching for him.
He looks at me and his gaze is soft and gentle, "Let's go out, Christine. My colleagues are having a get together and we should go. You'll have a lovely time."
"That sounds lovely." I smile and kiss him, "How could I ever doubt you, Raoul? You would never fail me."
Guilt hits me, I'm keeping whats happening a secret from Raoul. But, yet I want to doubt that it is true about the Phantom.
Raoul gives nothing away on a smile, "Of course." He kisses me and we head out for the night, enjoying being together and forgetting about the Phantom.
