Ron took Hermione's hand and led her round the back of the house to the garden where he had sat with Ginny earlier that day. He turned to face her and ran a hand through his hair.
'Can we just forget everything that's happened today for one minute?' He asked turning to face her. 'There's something that I want to show you.'
'Honestly,' Hermione replied. 'I would love to pretend that today hasn't happened, at least for a little bit.' She added and followed Ron as he led her through the trees and away from the house. They walked for a couple of minutes until they came to a clearing in the woods. Ron walked over towards the largest tree and she noticed some steps built into the tree. Looking up she noticed a tree house perched half way up the tree.
'Wow,' Hermione said looking up, 'I always wanted one of these when I was younger, but we didn't have any good trees in our garden.'
'Dad built this with Bill,' Ron began to explain. 'It's much nicer on the inside,' he said and began to climb up the tree. Hermione slowly began to climb after him taking each step one at a time. Ron helped to pull her up onto a small platform and the pair walked inside. From the outside it hadn't looked particularly big but from the inside it looked massive.
'Ginny got a bit excited with the decorating,' Ron added as Hermione continued to take it all in. There was a large rug spread across the floor with curtains on the windows and a corner filled with beanbags and pillows. Ron sat down on a rather deflated beanbag and Hermione took a seat on the one next to him. They were surrounded by three walls but the front was completely open and they watched birds flying through the trees; drops of water occasionally falling from the still rain soaked trees. The air was cool but neither of them felt cold.
'It's really quite peaceful up here,' She said still following there agreement of pretending that nothing had happened that day. It was nice to imagine that even if the day had gone completely differently that they still could've both ended up sat here in this tree house talking as they always did.
'I like coming here to clear my head sometimes,' Ron replied.
'Yeah it seems like a good place to do that,' Hermione said, wondering whether there had been another reason for Ron wanting to come here rather than just wanting to show her one of his favourite places. 'Have you lived here all your life?' Hermione asked.
'Yeah,' Ron replied. 'Mum and Dad moved here when they had Bill. It's not much but it's home,' he added after a pause knowing that compared to Hermione's house his home looked like a complete mess and he didn't want her to think badly of him, although he wasn't sure whether his house would effect her opinion of him after everything that had happened that day.
'It looks amazing,' she said and Ron could tell that she wasn't lying. He smiled at her and took her hand in his and she smiled back blushing slightly. Forgetting everything that had happened and taking in the moment Ron leaned in towards her...
'Ron?' A voice interrupted them from below. 'Ron are you up there?' Ginny asked.
'Yeah,' Ron sighed looking exasperated and Hermione couldn't help but giggle despite how disappointed she was that they had been interrupted. Ginny climbed up the steps until she was sat next to Hermione at the top of the tree house.
'I haven't been up here in ages,' she said looking around. 'I've been looking for this for months,' she added picking up a bracelet that lay in the corner almost completely covered by a blanket. 'I can't believe that I didn't think to check up here for it,' she muttered continuing to look around in case there was anything else up here that she had thought she's lost.
'Hey, Ginny,' Ron said after a few minutes of awkward silence.
'Yeah?' She asked although she was still quite distracted.
'Did you come up here for any particular reason or do you just want to get in the way?' Ron asked.
'Oh yeah, Dumbledore wants to see you,' she replied.
'Bloody hell,' he said.
'Who's Dumbledore?' Hermione asked, wondering who this person with the unusual name was.
'Just a family friend,' Ron replied still not technically lying to her but once again not telling the complete truth. He hoped that very soon this would all change, everything would clear up and he could tell her everything. But what if she wasn't a witch after all... He shook his head, not wanting to think about that possibility and praying that everything would be fine.
'I'll be back very soon,' he said to Hermione. 'Are you coming?' He asked turning to face his younger sister who was looking at him with a mischievous grin.
'I think I'll stay here,' she said knowing how much Ron would hate that.
'Are you sure?' He asked.
'Yup,' she replied and Ron had to give up knowing that he would never be able to change her stubborn mind and knowing that he would do exactly the same if the roles were reversed.
'Fine,' he sighed heading down the steps back to the ground and walking through the forest back towards the Burrow where he was hoping that everything would finally be cleared up.
'So how long have you known Ron?' Ginny asked turning to Hermione.
'Just a few weeks,' Hermione replied.
'How did you meet?' Ginny asked.
'He was actually buying you a birthday present,' Hermione said with a smile remembering the day that they had first met and how easy that had felt. 'I helped him choose a book for you.'
'So that's why it was such a good book,' Ginny replied as she finally realised the truth. 'I wondered how he had been able to pick something that I actually wanted. He's usually awful when it comes to buying birthday presents for people. Thanks, it was a great book.'
'You're welcome,' Hermione laughed. 'It's one of my favourites.' Hermione smiled again deciding that she really liked Ginny and that they could be good friends. Well, providing that her and Ron stayed together which at the moment didn't seem likely. Hermione let out a deep sigh feeling as if she was going to burst into tears again.
'Don't worry,' Ginny said with a reassuring smile. 'I promise you that everything is going to be fine.'
And for the first time that day, Hermione believed that it would.
