She gently rubbed on the fur my head and I squeezed my eyes shut. I could sense her fear because she probably knew how I reacted around that male creature she would refer to as "Dad." She didn't want to get bitten, but the girl should've known by now that she was my favorite human.
Eventually, she shut the door to my wire cage and walked out, and I decided to dig back into my bedding.
At first, I hated her. I used to live in a little cage with my two other hamster friends, until a lady with gloves took the red-eyed-hamster and I away and shoved us into two separate cardboard boxes. When light finally seeped into my box, I saw her with a goofy grin on her face, which only got me angry.
From that day forward, I was the grumpiest little thing ever. Apparently, the family was planning on returning me after the girl's science experiment, which was another reason I hated her. She and this other girl would put the red-eyed-hamster (who, by the way, betrayed me, then proceeded to fight me) and me in a wooden maze that was so confusing and made me itchy all over.
It was probably made of pine wood...
Yet, they still kept me. It turns out that the girl had fallen in love with me, but it took me some new food, a pink ball and a wheel for me to start liking her. Every day, she would put me in the ball to run around on the ground far from my cozy little cage. Then, she would take me out, stroke me, then put me back in my cage and give me fresh food and water.
Over time, I continued to enjoy my little routine, and, in time, began to love the girl...
She had always feared me, however, after the time I bit her so hard she began to gush blood. At the time, I didn't care. I had just woken up and she had the nerve to shove her finger in my face.
Now, I love her. She is the greatest human I have ever met. Whenever she walks into her room, I jump up to my cage like those puppy dogs that would walk by my cage every day at PetCo.
I love that girl. Her name is Cierra, and she's the nicest girl ever. She always gives me what I need, always cleans my cage, and always makes me feel safe. Her dad, on the other hand, is a jerk. He's always poking me and it's just so annoying!
Who am I, you may ask? Well, leave it to the girl to answer that.
Oh, I hear her footsteps!
Time for me to spring into action!
The door creaked open once more, and I pushed my bedding aside as I began to climb the bars that confined me.
Cierra's sweet scent immediately swept over my scent glands, and I chirped as she chucked.
"Hi baby!" she cooed in a high pitched voice, "How's my little Hammy doing? My chubby little boy, Chubbles!" She pulled open the cage door and beckoned for me to come out. I hopped onto the door, which was more like a ramp, and crawled into her hand. She brushed my fur with her fingers with tenderness as I crawled around, taking in all of her sweet scent.
My full name, according to her, is Hammy Chubbles, but she originally named me Hammy. Chubbles was just an add-on because I am very fat. I'm an 8 month old Roborowski Dwarf Hamster. Yes, I can be the grouchiest hamster ever. I tend to fight with those I don't like... If I do like you, however, I love you. And quite frankly, I loved that girl named Cierra more than any little seed in my hamster food.
