Soaring With Dash

After Soarin' had left, I stood there thinking. Have I changed? Was being around the Shadowbolts all this time starting to affect me? But I shook the thought from my head. Soarin's different. That's the problem.

One of the Shadowbolts came up to me. Her name was Dark Mist. "You don't need him anyway."

"Yeah. You're right." I turned to follow her back to the arena. All the Pegasi were packing up to head home. Or where ever they lived. They all looked at me as I approached. "What?" I asked them all. They just shook their heads and continued to put away their practice wear. "Don't forget we have a show tomorrow. Be here at midnight. I want to run through the routine a few more times." They all nodded, and some mumbled.

I sighed. They were nothing like the Wonderbolts. But I signed a 5-year contract when I agreed to fly with them. So I won't be going back for a while. And that's if Spitfire lets me back in. I stayed for a few more minutes, thinking about what Soarin' said. For some reason I couldn't get it out of my head, no matter how hard I try.

I flew home, distracted by what Soarin' said, and also what Twilight said. See the magic. Well I obviously didn't see it. I rolled my eyes and watched from the sky as Celestia raised the sun.

When I arrived at home I was surprised to find Surprise. "Hey Surprise." I said landing softly.

"WHAT ON EARTH DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" She yelled at me.

"What do you mean?"

"I know you left the Wonderbolts to be with Soarin', but look where it got you! He told me what happened after your practice. If anything, being a Shadowbolt has ended your relationship, not saving it." She was right, being a Shadowbolt didn't save it.

"Well Soarin's changed. So it's obviously not meant to be."

"What do you mean? Soarin' hasn't changed one bit. If anything you've changed." Surprise seemed disappointed.

"I've not changed one bit." I was offended by what she said.

"Yes you have. Soarin' just broke up with you. You should be crying and not acting like you guys were never together in the first place." She told me. Maybe she was right. But she can't be.

"Well, it just wasn't right. Sorry." I have no clue why I'm even apologizing.

"No Rainbow Dash, I'm sorry for that fact you can't see how much Soarin' loves you." Her sentence struck me in the heart. Did Soarin' actually love me? I looked over at Surprise, she nodded goodbye, and then did the signature Wonderbolt take off.

I stood there thinking about it all. About what Soarin' and Surprise said. I shook my head. If he loved me, he would've told me already.

I walked inside my house and climbed up the steps. I took a quick shower, hoping it would clear my head. But it didn't.

(Midnight)

I hardly got any sleep. Everything just kept running in my mind. It was like a song on repeat. All of the team was here and ponies were starting to fill the stands. I thought I saw Soarin's navy blue mane, but he wouldn't be here. Not after what happened.

We ran through our routine and it was nearing 1am. That was when the show would start. I spotted Queen Chrysalis and hoped she wouldn't recognize me.

As we ran through the routine, I kept getting distracted and messing up. One of the members even asked me if we should cancel. I simply lied and told them I was nervous.

It was finally one o' clock and the announcer explained the routine we would be performing. It didn't take long until they signaled for us to start. So we did. I cleared my head and started the routine.

It was going well until halfway through the routine, when I noticed that the pony I saw earlier was Soarin'. And he was sitting in the stands, his eyes glued on me.

I shiver went through my spine as I spiraled up into the air. All the thoughts filled my head again and I couldn't focus. The whole team flew up past the clouds, getting ready to dive to the ground but lift up at the last moment. One by one, they dove. I was at the end of the line.

Within a few seconds it was my turn to dive. I quickly glanced at Soarin', and dove. The wind rushed over me, like I was a bullet being shot through the air.

I was going faster and fast by the second. The ground was getting closer and closer. I was about 100 feet away, when I lost control. I was going so fast that I couldn't get my wings out. It was like they were glued to me. Panic took over me and I looked over at Soarin' for the last time.

I knew then what he meant. And what Surprise meant. Being a Shadowbolt did change me. It made me cruel but also reckless. I didn't think to slow down, and now I was going to meet my death. I never got a chance to apologize to Soarin'. I never got to know if he did love me. Because I know that I love him. And I was stupid to do what I did. And now I'll never get to know if there was another way. A smarter way. A way that we could still love each other without the other getting hurt. But now it's too late. And this is what I get in return.

*Soarin'*

I watched as Dash was struggling to open her wings. It's the one thing Spitfire warned us about, going too fast. I saw her look over and the terror written on her face. I immediately shot up and sped towards her. I knew I couldn't catch her in time. But I could at least break her fall.

She was getting closer to the ground, and I sped up. I got underneath her and whispered, "I love you." For I knew that the impact would kill me. But at least I would save her.

The last thing remember was Dash's lips on mine. Then I felt a wave of pain wash over my body and the world went black.

A/N

I honestly don't know what to say.

The chapter is a bit longer. But I liked the cliffhanger. And yes, it is a bit similar to Flashing Lights, but not completely. Like 20% similar.

Yeah.... Soarin' does love her. Well the next chapter is going to be fun!
