Three hours later, I stood in front of the long mirror right outside my room. And no, I don't put mirrors in my room because that's just so creepy especially at night. I wore a pair of really short high waisted shorts and an off the shoulder, black and white striped top. If you've got a body as killer as mine, you might as well show it off right? As someone smart once said "if you got it, flaunt it". You're probably like, why isn't she wearing a super tight skirt and those high chunky heels you always read about girls wearing? Well first off, the whole skirt thing is more Lauren's thing than mine. And as for the chunky heeled shoes, well first of all I do wear heels, but not chunky ones. No one in their right mind would wear shoes like that. At least I hope they wouldn't. Checking the time again, I sat down and pulled out one of my many curling wands, and sat down at my white marble vanity to do my hair and makeup, texting the volleyball group chat that I would be late to the party. After all, who shows up to a party on time?
"Em! You're finally here! About time too, I didn't think you were going to be this late," Lauren squealed as soon as I stepped inside the large house. She was obviously drunk because the Lauren I know wouldn't be this excited to see me, if she was sober.
"Maybe you should lay off on the drinks," I smirked, taking the red solo cup of alcohol out of Lauren's hand. I may hate her, but we did look out for each other.
"I'd rather not actually, thank you very much," Lauren shot back, grabbing her cup back from me as she made her way over to the corner where her new little boy toy was waiting for her. His name is Alec and he's our school's reigning "bad boy" if you want to place him into this cliché little story. He has medium length, dark brown hair, hazel eyes that always have this playful look to them, and chiseled jawbones made to saw girls' hearts in half. I watched as Lauren kissed him, slipping her fingers into his and leading him into another room. Now don't get me wrong, he's completely Lauren's, but you can't stop a girl from drooling over his dreamy smile and adorable one sided dimple. However, being me, aka second, I couldn't possibly get a chance with him if I actually wanted to live, and not end up kicked off the volleyball team with a possibly permanent injury Lauren would somehow cause. With I sigh, I headed into the kitchen to get myself a bottle of beer from the silver mini fridge. Despite this being where most of the alcohol was kept, this room was by far the least populated if you didn't count the bedrooms where no doubt, couples were getting it on. Opening the fridge, I grabbed an ice cold beer and turned around, a girl standing in the corner catching my eye. She was obviously not a weekly party goer like yours truly, with her light washed skinny jeans, dark grey sweatshirt, hair in a messy bun, and slightly worn out Converse. Normally I wouldn't pay attention to a girl like her, but what caught my eye was that she was talking to Alec. Or rather he was talking to her, and she was looking around with that scared look that makes you think of a deer that you're about to run over with a tractor. I looked around for Lauren, taking a small sip from the glass bottle. After not seeing the blonde locks belonging to the queen, I pulled my phone out to get a picture for evidence. Obviously being me however, my flash went off automatically because of the dark lighting.
"Crap," I muttered as the girl and Alec's gaze snap up to me almost instantly, the girl's eyes wide with shock and fear, while Alec's expression was more guilty than anything else. The poor girl looked she would rather die than endure the humiliation she knew was going to come from this picture. Lucky for her, two other girls, her friends I presume, surrounded her comfortingly, leading her somewhere else, and no doubt away from the party. With a smirk, I headed out of the kitchen to go find Lauren. Hey, I guess you can say I'm a bitch, but let's be real, I'm not popular for my heart of gold and smile so kind I could make puppies pop out of thin air. I sauntered off checking the living room where most people were dancing to the blaring, loud music, as Alec caught up to me, grabbing my wrist, forcing me to turn around to face him. My heart fluttered a little as I turned to look straight into the captivating eyes of the heart breaker of our school.
"Wait, where are you going?" Alec said, closing the distance between us, looking intensely at me, worry flashing in his eyes briefly, but long enough for me to catch it before he resumed his cocky, confident façade.
"To go get lightly powdered crepes from Italy," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes, "What do you think? I'm looking for Lauren. We have things we have to...talk about," I said innocently batting my eyelashes, looking at something just behind Alec. It was taking everything in my body not to melt into a puddle under Alec's look. Now I like to think that I'm a pretty independent woman, but when it comes to Alec, I sadly, have a crush on him just like every other girl in this school. No, not a crush. More like when you find someone insanely attractive, but you just have to settle for admiring this wonderful piece of art from a far. "Now if you'll just be so kind as to let me go..." I added, trying to twist my wrist free.
"Sorry, no can do, sweetheart. You can't tell Lauren about what you just saw. It was nothing. I was just talking to her because she's partners with me in English. Please, it was nothing. You know that Lauren will kill her, " Alec pleaded with me, almost as if he cared about what happened to this little innocent girl. Damn Alec's too attractive for his own good I thought almost bitterly, meeting his eyes with my own grey ones.
"What's in it for me?" I said coolly, pretending that I'd rather inspect my manicure than continue this conversation with the school's "it" boy.
"A date."
